Sumea Modeller Challenge
Sumea Modeller Challenge #9 - darkhunter22
Heres my concept :
Sucks... Start again!
But seriously, its looking good (as I've already told you). Has a lot of character and I'm sure you're going to do a lot with it during the 3D stage.
Though, it probably wouldn't hurt to do an extra iteration or two on the concept to see if you've got any more ideas floating around.

Sumea Modeller Challenge #9 - immellmann
Hey just throwing my hat in the ring, as it were. Will put some work up as soon as I scan some more concept pics and some quick renders of what I've got so far. Watch this space...
Pics
Ok here are some more concepts, I'm not the greatest drawer but here you are. At this stage I'm really into the collar shoulder protection thing that adds to the one breast being missing.
Also I was considering a Greek burial mask but not sure if I'll go for that yet also haven't decided on the weapon either a spear or a bow and arrow.
Any comments welcome
Sumea Challenge # 9 - Malus
HazarD:
No promises !!
However...I need to stretch the old modeling muscles, being a lead tends to have you finding less and less time for the stuff you love.
My 'vision de la mort'
----------------------------
Eros, God of Lust.
----------------------------
- An god who takes the form of an effeminate young man with small wings or stub's protruding from his back.
- soft alabaster skin, unnatural visual texture, almost like marble.
- Blood red finger tips from pulling the hearts out of his victims.
- Grossly deformed facial features, twisted with jealousy, lust and desire.
- His face is hidden under a sculpted helm that portrays a visage of an attractive young mans face. (think stylized hard chiseled features similar to those found in Greek statues).
- Small sections of light armour similar to that of a marble sculpture, hard chiseled lines. Gloves, helm, forearm and shin guards and lace up sandles.
- Either nude or with a codpiece.
- Wields a bow.
I found some interesting old descriptions of Eros that are totally different from the Hallmark Valentines card perception we have of him nowadays.
...The poet Sappho described him as "bittersweet" and "cruel" to his victims; he was also unscrupulous, mischievous and charismatic....
...Eros was also depicted in mythology as a trickster god, .....
I wanted to play up the cruelty of love, lust and desire.
So I want his persona to be that of a voyeur, stalker and puppateer.
He gains sick satisfaction from watching us mere mortals fall all over ourselves and others for our worldly desires, be they sex, love or material gain.
His fingers are red from pulling the dead hearts from those who have lost what they lust after and his face is twisted and deformed from his own unnatural desires, that with which only a god comprehend.
Boo ha ha!!! :P
Anyway, you never know I might actually finish it.

Sumea Challenge #9 - faultymoose
I was considering entering this challenge as my introduction to this community. I'm a complete beginner when it comes to game character creation (some limited experience on a couple of mods) but I've noticed from browsing these forums that this community is far more easy going and helpful than most online communities. Helps to alay my fears :)
I had a question before I posted my concept (noting my inability to draw a line, let alone a character) - greek mythology is a topic I have always been interested in, and in researching some ideas I was considering ways in which to make my model somewhat 'unique'.
As you may or may not know, the greeks often waged war in the buff - the idea being that armor was more of a hinderance. The ornate helms and whatnot were usually reserved for officers and parades.
SO, my question is, how would people feel about a nude male character? The gaming community is (arguably, or perhaps not so) predominantly male. I'm sure there'd be no problem with a naked (or semi naked) female character. Just browse CGtalk or another CG community and every second image is a scantily clad amazonian warrior woman fighting some hugely phallic beast in clothing that would be better at home in a handkerchief stand, near falling off. There's no problem with that, of course :)
But how would people feel about having to play a character with a wang? Would it put you off the game to have nude males running about the place?
Anyway, the concept I have in mind interests me on an artistic level, and on a slightly controversial level.
Just asking :)
I don't see there being any real problem with having a naked male character, but how that will fit into the theme of the comp might be another question altogether.
I'm sure if you can find a way to give your character a Greek mythological vibe by having him naked, then by all means... Go for it!
Good luck though.
-caseyjones
Ah sorry he won't be entirely naked - he'll have some accessories and some greek-inspired armor/weaponry - just that the majority of his torso to his knees will be naked. There's a concept I have in mind that means this won't all be bare skin, but I'll need to post a pic when I get home if I can manage to draw anything that closely resembles my idea :P
Caseyjones: Since the Greeks had a thing for walking around nude I can't see how it wouldn't fit the theme of the brief. :)
Faultymoose:
As long as he has some way of portraying he is a god of war then who the hell cares if he's in the buff.
The industry may be biased towards blokes but that doesn't mean they are all league loving, wife bashing thugs with a closet fear that they might actually like it a bit too much in a scrum. lol.
And who knows it might entice some of the ladies to join our little boys club, god knows the games industry is a bloody sausage fest at the best of times and I for one am over it!! :P
Its interesting actually as I was talking to our fellow Sumean HazarD about this very thing, if I do get the time (lol) my entry was to be an almost nude dude as well.
...Not that theres anything wrong with that.. :P
Sumea Modeller Challenge #9 - caseyjones
Sumea Modeller Challenge 09 - God of War
Hades
Description:
Reserved for a quick description of my concept. Will fill in later.
My progress:
23-07-2007
-caseyjones
Okay, so I've finally decided to enter this comp. I've been sketching all of last week and most of today. Had done a bunch of thumbnails, quick sketches, speed paints, tests, blah blah!
I've currently started more of an anatomy study for Hades (yes its a she! Decided to mix it up a bit)... So I apologise for the nakedness. I'll be spending the rest of the week trying to dress her up in all sorts of crazy sh*t and tweaking some of the proportions some more. But figured I'd post something to get some advice on what else I can do to pimp this bitch.
My current plans:
- Crapload of chains!
- Molten cracks throughout the feet and legs
- Firey hair
- Leather armour
- Spikes
- Rough up the skin some more (boils, scars, slime, etc)
-caseyjones
Killa Dee: Thanks dude and no, I haven't seen Pan's Labyrinth yet, though I do plan on doing so soon. So I'll have a look out for that.
shika: Glad you like it dude, that's a total compliment coming from you. I really appreciate it. You're totally right about the armour possibly making the character less creepy (its really apparent with the first paintover... Hades looks like a ditsy undead cheerleader or something). I've managed a quick paintover with a few ideas, but still far from happy.
faultymoose: Thanks for the kind words dude and I'm glad you like it. Its weird that the whole concept actually started with the teeth along the jawline and worked downwards from there.
Jason: Thanks man, I too am looking forward to seeing it come together. Though I'm still a fair bit off. Slowly but surely.
And now, a small update:
So far, I only really like the 3rd iteration, mainly the ashen legs with lava cracks, the neck brace and some of the thigh guards (mainly the 2 chains that connect from one guard to the other).
Hopefully I'll get a chance to do a few more paintovers tonight so I can get a start on the base mesh. But still a good while away from the modelling process.

Sumea Challenge #9 - Gogitason
Hey guys, I'll give this a go
I made up my own god of war. I'll be changing a few things on the model as I progress. Please let me know if the concept doesn't conform to the guidelines so I can change it.
Here's a basic concept sketch:
Sumea Challenge #9 ScottS
sh*t its been ages since I have been to this site, my old username seems to be dead . Well anyway, this is the perfect time for me to try the modeling challenge. Hopefully I will have some concept sketches in the next few days. Shame I cant draw.
Havent decided who I should base my model on. Might just make up some guy, not sure yet.
Sumea Challenge #9 Flying Monk
After procrastinating for the last two weeks its time I got started on this thing.
Right now I'm thinking of doing Hippolyta. Queen of the Amazons and daughter of Ares.
Wikipedia tells me that she had a magic girdle and that the amazons where probably based on the warrior women of Sarmatians. So maybe some vaguely Iranian style armor or jewelry.
Looking a bit toga partyish right now. I don't know if I'm going to do the cliche cutting off the right breast thing. But I don't have any other ideas right now.

Sumea Challenge #9 - Hezz
Hey. this will be my first challenge, and thought i'd start the thread now although havent got anything to post just yet, but will soon.
Sumea Challenge #9 - skipgamer - Hephaestus
Hi, im gonna enter this cos i have a little bit of spare time on my hands at the moment... im going to be doing Hephaestus - God of Fire and Crafts... mainly cos of the fire part but being god of crafts means he will have a kickass looking mace and sword.
He will draw his fire power from glyphs on his left arm which allow him to summon the power of fire from his left hand. His right arm will be heavily armed to add weight to the right side of his body to help prevent his limping due to being malformed at birth. (but he would still be limping a little bit, which would look awesome in game :) He will be wearing a blacksmiths apron cos after all he is the god of crafts. Also the glyphs on his left arm will be glowing red along with his eyes.
Got some concept images cooking up but only got an a4 scanner and cant be bothered at the moment cutting them up to scan... so im probably going to just go straight to the modelling on the pc. I find that when im modelling i get ideas for the concept and change that as i go along anyway.
--
Ok, so I've learnt alot more about this crafty character (hehe) and he really is quite a good choice, very interesting with lots of inspiration to be drawn from.
I'll share a few of the most important facts which I will be drawing inspiration from
-He is the son of hera, but not zues.
-Zues found out about him and threw him from mount olympus to earth, he fell with quite a thud and became malformed. He then became a master craftsman and was allowed back into mount olympus.(he doesnt like zues very much)
-He was set to get married to aphrodite, the hot god, or god of love if u will, but she didnt want to cos he was so ugly, and married his brother instead. (another thing that just eats away at this guy's confidence)
-He got really annoyed and then tried to rape athena, but missed and instead impregnated gaia by ejaculating on the world(yeh, its a bit weird, but adds to the idea that this is one sick and twisted guy)
-He has built all the weapons and armor of the other gods. Including things like zues's thunderbolts, someones invisible hat, poseidon's trident, etc...
-He made himself a really "awesome" looking shield (ill have to put that in somewhere)
-In some myths he killed zues with a hammer (this is a bad mofo that u dont wanna get angry)
So after all that I've got a few more things to work with in my concepts. For example, he's a lot more twisted and messed up than i originally though, I'm now thinking a kind of e-blanka + gollum + hunchback of notre dame type build, instead of the more typical "body builder" or "spartan" build.
The left side of his body is going to be charred and black, with cracks of fire that you can see rather than glyphs, this is because as he was heading to earth after being thrown by zues, the atmosphere burnt him up, thats also where he got his skill with fire from. Therefore he's going to have some weird armor that i'll explain in the concept images.
I'm going to make him with a beard because that is how ive seen him be depicted in the images ive researched. He will also be bald with a pony tail, I think this will add to his awkward look.
All in all I think I've stumbled upon a pretty awesome concept here. It's amazing what ideas you can come up with with just a bit of research :) at first I thought this was a very limiting challenge, but after a bit of reading there are Alot! of interesting different stories from which you can draw inspiration.
Thats all for now :) hopefully get some concepts ive been working on in the next few days.skipgamer2007-07-12 23:21:15
Um, after a few hours work heres the start of my body geometry... low and high poly respectively, the low is about 5k atm, so it should do once i make the hands, should be able to leave myself with 1.5k for the head... we'll see how it goes. The high is just for fun, i didnt spend much time on it at all, he wont end up having those weird muscles :P
All so far done in z-brush, Ill work on the low poly in 3ds now, adding armour and details keeping an eye on the tri-flow (this will take me a while) Then I'll export it back to Z-brush for the final displacement map :)
Well thats the plan ;P
Sumea Challenge #9 - Massius
hello all, my first foray into the sumea forums, ive decided its about time i got off my a$$ and had a dip,
for this comp ive decided to do Achilles, for those of you that dont know your mythology he was the greatest hero at the battle of Troy, heres some info ripped straight from Wikipedia
"Achilles is the only mortal to experience consuming rage (menis). His anger is at some times wavering, at other times absolute. The humanization of Achilles by the events of the war is an important theme of the narrative."
the narrative talked about is Homers Iliad
so what im going for is an Angry, almost beserk warrior
not to sure how im going to do the body but so far i got some pretty solid ideas for his helm (which will be a defining feature) and his sword
heres the design ive come up with for the helm
just spammed this up quickly after work, sorta the direction i rekon ill take him,
edit: when i get the chance ill do some proper concepts, will focus a bit more love and attention on his shoulder guard and chest armor, as they will be defining features for the whole outfit,
atm i know its just looking like a random hoplite, but thats sort of the way i want to take it, even tho his armor will be individual and elaborate, i want him to keep that definitivly "Greek" look, hence the modified Corinthian Helm, a different touch but still with that firm Hellenic feel to itMassius2007-07-17 04:52:43
thought id spam a quick update, this one is still a work in progress, but its got a bit more shape to it now :P
was thinking of making the shoulder guard a sea serpent/monster as a sorta tribute to Thetis, Achille's mother (she was a sea nymph and once called a mighty sea moster to defend Zeus) but i scrapped that and went with the lion head, it being a more Heroic symbol of strength and courage, somthing that Achilles had plenty of
its still got a bit to go as i said but its definatly getting some more form
dont u worry, im thinkin of doin some teched out crazy hero like stuff with the spear, he will hace a sword as well, but its sheathed
main reason behind the spear is because thats how Achilles killed Hector, with a spear,
yeah i eventually weent with the skirt style, was thinking of doing scaled plates but that ended up looking to european/medieval, im hoping to tweak the skirt design a bit tho, so ill keep you all updated :DMassius2007-07-18 16:43:01
This is coming along nice, I like the detail on the helmet and shield especially, my only crit would be the spear looks a little plain? Maybe adding some details or altering the shape might help? Apart from that looking good, can't wait to see the rest :)
thanks dude, spear is sorta placeholder atm, still tossing up weather to have him with his spear of with his sword, ive got a solid desing for a sword, but nothing is sticking yet for the spear
have also been playing around a bit with some silouettes giving him a different shape, ill post those up later once ive done a bit more on em
Edit: was reading up on Homers the Odyssey, counterpart to the Iliad for a bit of greek inspiration and found a curios little passage that has given me some new ideas for the Achilles concept
summed up
Odysseus wanted to talk with Tiresias, so he and his men journeyed to the River Acheron in Hades, where they performed sacrifices which allowed them to speak to the dead. Odysseus sacrificed a ram and the dead spirits were attracted to the blood. Odysseus held them at bay and demanded to speak with Tiresias. Odysseus also meets Achilles, who tells Odysseus that he would rather be a slave on earth than the king of the dead
i quite like this little line and will be making some new concepts to fit it accordinglyMassius2007-07-23 23:56:34
Sumea Challenge #9 - Makk
Just thought i'd get my post going. Havent really decided what Im going to be doing, still flciking through some of the gods
This sketch was based on the greek goddess Melinoe, the goddess of ghosts. Nothing serious..
Sumea Challenge #9 - Jaytheham
Here's my design after a couple of revisions, probably do a bit more work on the clothing/accessories.
Should get it finished this year if Blender bends to my will.
Sumea Modeller Challenge #9 - Goldenchocobo
Ok, I'm entering, i'll be doing Poseidon - the God of the sea. I have done some concepts, but Sumea is not allowing me to upload them I am getting a page with the following message on it.
"Only members with sufficient permission can access this page."?
I don't know what this means and what I'm suppose to do to get "sufficient permission", but I have been able to upload images before. Has this changed somehow?Goldenchocobo2007-07-08 01:41:40
Thanks Killa dee.
This is a more refine concept showing the proportions and an Idea for a skin texture(it is sort of an underwater camouflage water reflection).
I tried adding different types of armour too him. but I think he looks better naked. I still am thinking about giving him a huge spartan style round shield and a long cape.
Sumea Challenge #9 - rosco
Okay putting in for this one, sat and spied for too long.
Going to create Hephaestus and mutate him, working up the concept now. Good thing is will give me a chance to bash it out in Mudbox.
sigh.....what have I got myself into...
Okay, been doing some sketches but not sure on the style to head as yet. Here's some roughs for proportion and getting some ideas for character which should hopefully push me in a direction for the look and feel of him.
Just some back story on Hephaetus, to save you from Wikiing, he's one of the major Olympian gods. He's the god of fire and forges and is the creator of many things. He's also badly mutated, either from birth or being kicked out of Olympus by Zeus cause they had a tiff, ate his sandwich or something. He married Aphrodite though she despised him because of his looks and so she had an affair with Ares. The gods only laughed at his misfortune so he is generally a bit peeved the other gods.
So anywhooo, Heph's will have a huge giant arm that is supported by a large muscular right side. His left side will be quite lean, and his legs will be thin and perhaps inturned from being lame. He usually pounces about using his staff to pole-vault about and then mash people with his hammer of smiting. Though I was a bit partial to the wheel chair idea of some myths, (up goes the polys). His right hand is cauterised around the handle of his hammer. Attire wise, butt naked except for a smithing apron to protect the brass monkeys, and place a few accessories about willy nilly.
Just a little sketch of one way I'm thinking, though he looks too nice and needs to get nastier, think I'll keep the fire and beard. Might throw in some McFarlane direction, and get gritty and nasty
okay here's the evil one. Think this one works better as I finally warmed up on my tablet. Guess they both give you the idea of which why I was going with them. Last one has embedded chain cloak, iron pins in the shoulder, nails in the feet and a helmet to hide the face, mainly because I have no idea what to make him look like...sigh, need more life drawing classes....
Rosco2007-08-02 08:26:23
thanks guys...going to be an interesting process as I haven't gone to town and actually finished something for ages, still haven't finished my Wow character....but now I have less distractions and a little more time...
So I'll post my processes and get some feed back as I go for those with a little more normal mapping pipeline experience.
Process of thinking....start up in Maya and get base model, I'll do a head as well, as I've thought about making him look like a perfect stereotypical marble bust form. Then I'll pump him into mudbox then blow up my lappy as I try add detail.
So it will begin in the next few days....and if I keep to trends...will possibly never finish....
Sumea Modeller Challenge #9 - Vlad
Hello, although I'm fairly sure ill run out of time, ill give it a crack anyway. Seeing somebody else is already doing Icarus, I've decided to do Daedalus, nothing overly superhuman, average build elderly man, light leather amour, tools for weapons, etc. I'm going incorporate a labyrinth either as decoration on the amour or as a tattoo.
Heres a 30 second concept i drew.
Weapons are more or less done. Might redo the textures later.
I need a bit of clarification on the rules.
"bi-pedal (two arms, two legs), and male or female. You could choose to have an animal head or animal features on the head of your character if you like (think: Minotaur or Medusa)"
I want to incorporate mechanical (more or less) wings into my design. Can i do it, if their part of the costume/amour, not the actual character itself?
Sumea Challenge #9 - benny_s
I'm in for now, I'll be doing it in spare time at work. I'm going to do Icarus if thats possible, if not I'll post what I get done anyway.benny_s2007-07-05 20:34:05
SubD poly modelling is soooOOoooOoo 2004 :)
but seriously, get aquainted with mudbox or zbrush, and start with a base mesh WAY more simple than what you've got.
It doesnt have to be any more complicated than this
Infact, the more simple the base mesh the better, as it will allow you to more easily fix up any proportion issues further down the track.
Once you've got a super cool sculpt, take it out of zbrush or mudbox and retopo the heck out of it. You can come out the end with an Animation ready SubD mesh(like what you're working on here) 5x faster and looking even better because the process is more fluid and organic. You wont be thinking about technical crap like how to quad your mesh for deformation/smoothing till AFTER you've got an awesome piece of work - technical thinking and creativity dont mix at all!
just some food for thought :)
I dig what you've got so far, his head and neck look great!
Sumea Challenge #9 - Hiporu
Well this year I'm going to get something done, last year was on track until I had to go to Boston as I was in the midst of buy a house, this year I have nothing to do in my spare time but play video games, do some art and make sure the girl is happy (very important)
I'm going to make my own god of war. What if our main religion was of the Greek gods? If there was belief in them would they return? Under what conditions would we start to take on these beliefs?
Well I have answered this questions and this guy is the new god of war. I need to research the stories and myths of the Greek gods to help me write a back story which I will post here, which should help with the concepts finer details.
Anyway I spend the last two lunch times at work blocking out the proportion of this guy and a little detail pass (only like 100,000 polygons in Zbrush 3 which is nothing really) I use reference from 300 aiming for a very fit looking guy that has the physique of a god.
Ok I think it is all working.
Hiporu2007-07-05 17:16:32
Thanks, kind of got carried away because my plan was to have amour on his torso and spend most of my time detailing it, when I should have been detailing the arms or face , I kind of like the front of his torso now and maybe not amour it.
I guess I will get to see how it looks not amoured in this concepting stage before I go detail it.Hiporu2007-07-05 19:39:11
Too right, there is a little style I was aiming for and over shot the mark a little (lunch time was over) I like the abdominal area also and have been work that style and level of detail into the rest of the body, I also don't like the arms at all and how the join to the rest of the body, come to think about it the abdominal area is the only area I'm at all happy with.
I have done a bit work on it this weekend, I have re topology bits that were not working in ZBrush and re sculpted the back because it was a little back anatomy by numbers.
It's only rough took about an hour and a half (45min for lunch I take, they give me an hour.)
Started with a quick box model (would have used Zshperes but I have problem with human faces and Zsperes) and then did a quick past in Zbrush, took it back to max changed some topology and then worked it up from there.
Being able to change topology at a later date is great feature in Zbrush 3 means you can get right into modeling and fix issues later.
Yeah maybe but I'm have real problems nail down what I want to do.
At first I want to do ancient Greek meets Fire Fly, like one of the sh*t hole planets started to belief in the ancient Greek gods again which lead to them returning. The character I wanted to make became the god of war by defeating Ares (much like the god of war games.) Will this even land inside the challenge out lines?
BUT
Now I'm not sure if I going to do something over the top and crazy or focus on anatomy and style and keep it simply and nail the details. More Greek god art I see the more I just want to do a huge half naked guy just back from battle.
I don?t know.
Hey Hiporu, I know what you mean man. I get the same thing alot.
Ive decided to stick to the anatomy and focus on bringing out character, personality and realism in the face mainly for my entry.
But again i thought the same as you described, originally i was after doing something crazy and big, but decided to reduce it back down to keep it simple, boring but ill live with it.
Maybe a few more sculpts will help you make up your mind ?
Sumea Challenge #9 - PaNthR
Hai guys!
Im gonna throw my hat in this comp since its due in november :D. Im thinking of doing hades. I'll throw up some concepts next week as im trying to finish off my cgsociety comp first. GL everyone! :)
PaNthR
Ive been playing around with
Ive been playing around with the weapons as im still working on a direction for the look of hades. Hades symbol is a pronged fork and carries around a staff. I find staves boring, but ive stuck to the pronged fork idea and took on a weapon abit more menacing. Im not much of a concept artist so i concepted a block out of what i was looking for and modeled a little something something. Throw me some feedback :)
He'll be duel wielding these babies. Atm the mesh is a little expensive (1776 tris x2)
P
Love the helm, very original
Love the helm, very original style and yet it also follow the greek style helms in terms of shape, nice work keep it up. It does look badass very cool
Sumea Challenge #9 - Loki
Hi all I'm new to this forum, thought i'd join to enter this challenge. I'm a big fan of the old Hercules T.V show with Kevin Sorbo. SOO I've decided to make the one and only Hercules!! I've got some sketches done and ill post them as soon as i can.
Sumea Challenge #9 - Jason
Hello, just thought I'd give this a go, I'm going to do a variation on Perseus methinks. :)
I've never done any normal mapping so I thought this comp is a good place for me to get a start learning it and get some good pieces to put into my portfolio. So here's my concept:
The silhouette is pretty traditional, but wanted to keep it looking Greek or real world and put my energy into the design detailing for that heroic armour look.
The armour is well defined no real cirts there, I'd have to agree with Casey on the weapon a bit, IMO I reckon he could be better suited with some sort of epic sword style weapon .
Then again this is ur design dude and feel free to do what ever u want wit it, this is just a little suggestion.
Other than that great concept, it does as u said look very convincing. Nice work will also make a nice folio piece, hope this comp helps u learn some normal mapping and good luck .
Hey guys, thanks for the great crits! I agree with the weapon looking too small, so i tried to flesh it out a bit more. I made the blade bigger and extended the body of it, im trying to go for a heavy staff look. On the back end is a spearhead, to keep that hoplite reference in there and to give him the option of stabbing moves. I'm trying to avoid making his weapon a sword, simply because so many heroes have swords lol.
Here's a sketch to show how he would move. When coming out of invisibility, I imagine white clouds of smoke would envelop him, similar to nightcrawlers black smoke in the XMen film. He can't truly 'fly' but his jumping and agility would be superhuman, something like Achilles 'jumping stab' move in the movie Troy.
Really nice concept however I actually liked the old weapon.
Not saying the new one is any worse but I find it very cliche that a big guy has to have a big weapon.
To me he looks quite athletic but still agile, almost birdlike, that first weapon reminds me of a talon and I could imagine him gracefully dancing through a sway of enemies casually slicing them up with precise control.
You can see the obvious correlation to birds of prey in your amour's filigree, the tail feather like skirt, the beak like helm etc, I think your original idea would serve the theme of the actor better.
Especially since the next image you submitted, while well executed, lacks any real unique personality which I feel is from compensating for what the new weapon would allow him to do, also 300 comes to mind.
Not every hero needs to be a brute. :)
Again though, sweet concept, look forward to seeing this guy develop.
Ninja: Hey man, still in Japan? Looking forward to seeing your entry to, your dominance war stuff was awesome :)
Killa Dee thanks!
Malus: Thanks for the great crit, my initial thought was to go with agile, hence the flight and bird symbolism. Now I'm not really sure which direction to take him. I might make his weapon more staff-like as thats a pretty good tradeoff between size and lightness? Sort of like those monks that fight with the staff.
The main purpose of the image was to show how he would move, the dynamics of the character motion. But you're right about him lacking unique personality.
My initial thoughts are that this is Perseus after he has slain medusa and completed his other heroic feats and instead of returning the armour, it becomes his and will only posess its magic properties when he wears it.
I also see him as somewhat reclusive. He was once a hero, but now is a little distant/detached and this can be related to prolonged use of his invisibility helmet plus some other reasons I've yet to come up with yet :). Anyway that's the basic gist of it, but I really need to develop it more, once again thanks you've gotten me thinking about characterisation more, which is something i need to focus on, I'll try that for my next piece :)
Sumea Challenge #9 - Skeep

Sumea Challenge #9 - codyalday
I will enter this one, and hopefully finish. Thinking of a female character this time, something along the lines of Athene.
Changed my mind due to the fact that there are to many 'normal' looking models in the comp, in which doing a random hero. Could say god of banishment, pain, surrering, ect. Anyways paint over from my ZBrush model. Possibly might deform him pyshically in some way. Comments and crits are appriciated.

Cody, its great to see how much you've improved over the months, especially with your low res meshes. Keep at it!
Id like to be helpful and critique your work in general. It's clear to me that you don't make use of good reference, evidenced by the anatomical errors in your latest character. Trust me when I say this - reference is everything! hit google images and find some photos of body builders, bearded men, capes, togas, shorts and t-shirts, save them all to a "reference" folder in your working directory and have a few images open while you model.
Be extremely picky with your work and don't stop until it looks exactly like your reference and/or concept art. That's what we get paid for ;)
nice work hunter!!! U have such a definitive art style thats just awesome! i look forward to seeing it in 3D!
GL man :)
