Description

An area for local developers looking for volunteers / non-paid workers for their projects.

Want to help start a company in Melbourne?

Forum

Hi,
I am a Software Engineer who was recently laid off from Bullant Studios and I am currently working part time to support myself while I correspond with four interested programmers to establish a game development company (the team is growing rapidly).
We have commercial experience developing games for all of the consoles (PS2, XBox and GameCube) as well as PC.
We will probably aim to develop a technical demo to attract publishers at E3 2004 possibly using RenderWare which provides cross platform support.
We are looking for artists, programmers, designers, testers and business people to help us build this new enterprise. At this stage we are unable to pay you but will ensure that every member of the team is able to work on those areas that most interest them.
If you would like to know more please contact me at fawnha@hotmail.com.

Best regards,
Hamish

Antipode seeks project members

Forum

Antipode : the insect isles

Antipode is a new 3D RTS / RPG development from Big Toe Games in Melbourne. It is a voluntary project consisting of developers from (but not restricted to) the University of Melbourne. Antipode is to be released for entry into the AGDC Unsigned Game Competition (2003), it has been in development since before last years conference, with a number of months carefully preparing the script to produce an innovative and completely new type of RTS. Using OpenGL and SDL on a Win 32 platform, the engine already looks astounding, with another 5 months of development time still left!

Big Toe Games currently seeks voluntary artists / modellers to develop in-game content (placeholder content already exists). This is an opportunity for students or out of work modellers with good talent to showcase their work to potential employees in a real game environment!

Unfortunately, Big Toe Games are unwilling to post any screenshots of the engine. The development team have acknowledged to keep the engine under wraps until the conference. However, potential project members would be emailled full details, and screenshots along with a copy of the game script if interested.

After the conference, Big Toe Games plans further development toward a shareware release of Antipode.

Vendetta Studios seeks concept/sketch artist

Forum

Hello again =)

I am the producer in at Vendetta Studios. We (90% of our team) made StrikeForce, a mod for Unreal Tournament.

now we are making a bowling game for Unreal Tournament 2003.

Epic (the owners of the Unreal engine) are having a mod contest this summer.

Grand Prize is a free licensed $300,000 Unreal Warfare game engine. What does this mean? Means if we win it, we will be able to sell ANY game we create with it...you can buy it at Wal-Mart...

so what about this bowling thing?

well...here's some EARLY screens from about 6 months ago...

The Balls

we had a contest, included all the tools, to make your own bowling balls. All you needed to know was how to make a pic in MS Paint...Photoshop and such were better...but not necessary...we still have the template, and will re-issue it soon.
here are some of the contest entries:

And the Alley render by Ben

And finally, Ben (but_faktree =T|C=) rendered this ball return...

And the real one he modelled it after (remember, his render is NOT skinned or textured)

http://myweb.cableone.net/travish/vendetta/dcp_0016.jpg

Features:

selectable characters with 'over-the-top' themes and voices, and their own theme music (Skanless be the audio G)

NBA-Jam style effects of 'heating up' and 'on fire!'

taunting and trash talking

single player practice including exact pin placement practice (so you can get that 7-10 split down foo!)

full mutiplayer capability (the meat of the game baby)

full stat tracking, including best games, averages, set averages, streaks (strikes, spares, gutters, etc)

leagues with stats and custom uniforms

midnight bowling where you can win Vendetta cash to spend at the Vendetta Pro-Shop to purchase custom-made balls, uniforms, etc

Upgradeable abilities/attributes (not implemented in mod version yet)

probably more...ill have to read over the documentation we have for the game again...but its a lot...

er dont mean to spam, sorry.

but we are desperate for a non-flaky artist who can at least provide two detailed characters for the 3d modellers to crank out. Our pro sketch artist got hired off to Germany, and a local one here is so flaky I can no longer rely on him to even show me a single sketch.

btw, the phone number is:

208-735-4073

This is a non-paying position, but the possibilities are two-fold:

1. if we win (and we will, trust me), thats a full-time job for ya heh.

2. if we dont win, you still get massive exposure, about 50,000 downloads minimum, with full credit etc going to artists who provide content.

3. even if you dont sketch/concept, theres still ways to make bowling balls (very easily I might add!) and have them included in the game.

Thanks!

how realistic is it to expect somebody with 2+ years of game programming experience, xbox or ps2 experience, and at least one completed project to want a junior programming position?

*boggle*

That's the *ideal* junior candidate really.

I might apply even though I probably won't get in (because of the distances involved). I pretty much have the requirements covered though.

many people in this industry at programmer or senior programmer level have that amount of experience, hiring somebody at junior level with a shipped title is a joke.

Well i'm definately applying.. its a dream job for me. Although atm, i'll take pretty much anything, even if it means moving to melb/syd. Its a pain in the ass getting into the industry :(
