API Developer - Mid level

After our recent successful launch on Oculus Quest, we’re looking to grow the team! We need a talented API Developer to help grow our backend systems. Our game is being played by thousands of people daily and the demand for more meta services is growing daily.

Alta is a Sydney-based Virtual Reality startup. Since 2016 we have worked on the multiplayer game A Township Tale, and have grown from the 3 founding members to over a dozen passionate developers. At Alta, each team member wears multiple hats and is committed to our overall mission in developing a groundbreaking VR experience for players worldwide.

We are now fully remote and have several team members in different time zones. We are a very tight knit team and finding a great team fit is just as important to us and finding the right skillset. 

The role

As an API Developer you will be working with the lead engineer to design and implement various backend systems. You will also be working closely with the game development team to spec out what services need to be exposed to the user and implement them top to bottom. In this role you will be working with a live production system and you will be able to see the impact of your work immediately. We need someone who can take ownership of their work and work unsupervised to achieve the mission. You will be exposed to a variety of innovative cloud technologies and have a chance to further develop your skill set in whatever area sparks your interest. Ideally you are someone that enjoys and understands the ways video games connect us and can put that knowledge to use in making meaningful changes to our product. 

Requirements 

• 2+ years within a software engineering role
• 1+ years experience building systems on a major cloud provider (AWS preferred)
• Great database knowledge, in particular NoSQL experience
• Experience in C# and .NET Core
• Strong understanding of REST APIs
• Experience in agile delivery methodologies
• Strong passion and understanding of data architectures and best-practices of devops to deliver faster and more reliable outcomes
• Strong communication skills to liaise with non technical stakeholders and front end designers

Bonus skills

• Kubernetes and containerised workloads
• Good understanding of CI/CD principles
• You have worked with AWS Lambda and DynamoDB
• Experience working in the video game industry
