Hello! We are currently looking for a 2D character artist to draw portraits inspired by the artwork of JC Leyendecker for our visual novel / point-and-click - Ladies of Newport. Our game follows the story of an American Navy operation in the 1920s that aims to weed out homosexual sailors among themselves... by seduction.

About us
Loosely inspired by actual oral history, the story of love, loss, and self-discovery, is written by our proudly gay developer Neil Triffett, and our games have always catered specifically to Queer gamers (https://neil-triffett.itch.io/). Ladies of Newport is our latest title delving into the gritty past of homophobia to celebrate the love that transcends gender.
What we need
We need an artist to set up the look with a few characters in a painterly style that evokes the feeling of the 1920s, as well as bold shapes and strong contours to emphasise human features. The artwork of JC Leyendecker is our reference, but we're open to other art styles as you will be setting up the aesthetic for the rest of the chapters. We need some artwork and sketches by the end of January before applying for funding from Screen Australia. If funded, we plan to have 8 chapters with 50 characters in total, which includes our protagonist, various male love interests, and side characters of diverse genders. The current roadmap is to release on Steam by Q3 2026, then ported for Mac and mobiles.
Due to the limitation of the funding, we are only looking for artists residing in Australia.
Scope
This will be contract work for half-body coloured portraits, and we would like to start with 1 character. We can provide a detailed description and a mood board for each character.
