The title sums it up. In the mean time how about an unofficial modeler challenge to get people in the mood, a concept art challenge or even a texture challenge (Make a set of say 8 tiling textures and put them in a basic environment)
In fact I think a concept art challenge warrants further discussion.
What do you think?
i cant exactly say the wait
i cant exactly say the wait is unbearable, but is sure is boring just sitting here waiting for the details :P. i hate my job
keen as mustard
cant wait for this, hopefully this year ill be more organised and actually finish it on time =)
Ok, it will be on tomorrow!
Seriously, I've had too much things happening today, updating the site with some security patches, been finalising sponsors for the challenge, uploading video, and a lot more. The reason why the guidelines are not up is that I've had a change in mind for the topic, as well as a change in the duration of the challenge. Anyway, I will explain it more tomorrow. Guidelines will be finalised and posted tomorrow!! Sorry! Need some sleep :o
how about Souri you tell us
how about Souri you tell us a 100% sure announce date, so I will not bother to visit this site every few hours and get frustrated
TOTALLY AGREE!
Souri would not be doing this on purpose... There could be any number of reasons for the hold up. Many of which are not under his control.
people leaving sumea au
It not that we are not grateful... we are. There are many reasons why people are leaving this website and are going to places like cgsociety polycount etc.. this is but one reason. there are quiet a few places on the net these days that are more organized. Anyway suggestion don't put up dates be more general like within the week, or if you put dates up make sure you stick to them. I still support sumea. What you do here is great for the Australian New Zealand community. So keep up the good work.
there are reasons on the delay
In the ten Sumea challenges we've done in six years, this has been the first time we've ever had a small delay. If people are honestly stopping coming here because of that, then there's nothing much I can do about that. I won't bore you with the details, but to say that we've been disorganised is a bit unfair. There's a bit of effort required to get sponsors and challenges like these happening.
Anyway, I've just posted up the challenge guidelines, so lets get on with the competition, shall we?
Just a few notes
The guidelines are up!
As usual, we have three days before we set the guidelines in stone. If there's anything you think that needs ironing out or changed, please post about it here and we'll work it out.
Also, if you plan on entering, you need to do a few things.
1. You need to have a registered account on tsumea
2. You must join the tsumea modeller challenge group at http://www.tsumea.com/group/tsumea-modeller-challenge-10 . This group will be the hub of all things related to the challenge!
3. To upload your work for discussion, you need to upload it to your journal, then link your post to the tsumea modeller challenge group.
Oh Sweet this is an awesome
Oh Sweet this is an awesome challenge.
Just one query
"required (model) : 9000 polygon (tris) maximum (one single mesh)."
Does that mean the mesh has to be all welded together?
One singel mesh
In the past this has meant that the whole model needs to be attached. So you can have entire elements withing the model eg. a backpack, gun holster, necklace, helmet. As long as they are one mesh attached as different element within the model. Max it is attached. Maya I believe it is combine. Correct me if I am wrong. They shouldn't be grouped or attached under a hierarchy.
Please let us know if this is not correct.

im not leaving :)
im proud of this site...

.. now to check out the modelling challenge
What a great theme Souri, we
What a great theme Souri, we can really come up with come crazy designs with this as a theme.
Wow I didn't see this theme
Wow I didn't see this theme coming. in fact out of everything it is the least I have thought about. I don't even know where to start. Not to mention the nessecity of normal maps actually makes it harder since not only do i have little experience with normal maps but also the fact that fantastical characters have easier to make normal maps. I mean I haven't seen many games with such characters that don't look like they simply have normal maps 'because we can' ending up looking like wrinkly wax dummys.
Trying to keep things orderly
When you submit your texture sheets and flat wireframe, we should see your model and any items / weaponry on the same sheet. Your model doesn't have to be all welded together, but we just want it all together on one sheet, rather than on many separate sheets - I know people like to have sheet for the head, one for arms and torso, one for the weaponry etc, but that's just gonna be a huge pain for me when I compile everyone's work.
I was planning to a non-normal map challenge
But circumstances meant that we had 4 and a half months for the challenge, and that is more than enough time for normal mapping work. I know a lot of people have said in the past and will say that this is a modeller "challenge", so if you're not used to normal mapping, you really should be having a go. Normal mapping really is a prerequisite for modellers these days anyway.
There's so much you can do with normal mapping in this challenge. Embroidery, patterns and whatnot on clothing. Be creative! Do some research, get some inspiration from McFarlane Toys. There's so much you can do with this theme.
Objects, anything!
They can be objects! They can be anything, but they should be symbolic of your villian or something your character would leave behind at a scene.
Sounds Cool
Sounds Cool
one thing though 'your villian *must* be modern-day and entirely plausable'is that meaning no superpowers or that sorta mumbo jumbo????
Sounds great I'm in! some
Sounds great I'm in! some clarity on the the superpowers/magic would be great so i can start concept.
