Ok here is a first render practice of my concept. After a couple of crappy sketches i decided on this one. Im also thinking of doing another concept of a female type. Not sure.... I dont have time. I dont even know if im going to finish this.
I decided to change the head cause it looks crap. Im going for a more asian oriental look probably take off that crappy horn he has as well.
The patterns on the character armour will change. Also probably the design of the skeleton heads.
I was going to do a samurai but it seems a lot of people are doing them. So I decided to go for a hardcore boss character.
As usual crits are welcome. I need help improving this.
Also please tell me if the image is too dark. I need to calibrate me monitor properly. I cant seem to get the right balance.
I was just browsing through your site for the first time in like 2 years, big improvement on the design and the content. I was actually wondering if you were working at a games company now. I remember when I met you a while back you were doing some free work for some company on a project you couldn't talk about. But I noticed on your site you're a senior artist for Bullant. NICE! If you don't remember me, I'm one of Daryl's mates from the EDIM course... we went out to Scubar a few times.
As for your concept, it's looking real sweet dude. It looks like a necromancer elf type character. I dont think you should change anything from this concept maybe except for the shoulder armour. Just the size of them dwarfs the character a little and makes him look really young, almost a teen. But that could be what you were aiming for.
Keep it up!

Looking sweet man but i agree with casey about the shoulder pads. Or maybe its the black material coming down from them. They are making his arms look fat and stumpy (kinda like those warhammer 40k space marines). The weapon and legs are sweet, but yeah, his head needs a bit of work (maybe a proportion thing again). Good work.
Casey jones :
hey man hows things ?, My site is actually really old content it is around 2 years old actually 3. Thanks for the advice on the shoulder armour. Also I dont work for Bullant/Bigant anymore I got to change the information on my website. Bigant is a great company and great people. Miss working there. Im in Japan now and working but will be back soon.
Silvermirage:
Thanks man. He is young and does not age at all :). Young people are very tough.
War-Head:
Thanks. Those black material are supposed to be Crow feathers. As for proportions I really suk at it, I can only get proportions right in 3D.
Hi peeps been a long time no update...
Here is a half preview of the high res model. I have done the full res model with all the details and finished normal mapping.
Now im in the middle of texturing. Also testing out shaders.
This model is a pain there is too much parts. But i managed to pack in the details and actually come out well on the normal maps.
This will be last screenies till i submit this sunday....
Oh yeah nice sumea forum design Souri. Ninja2006-09-27 11:39:08
Polycount game modelling challenge:
http://www.polycount.net/dominancewar/index.htm
Rockstar is the first place entry
'BTW what is rockstar and Dominance war?'
Man its really hard to beleive that you have never seen General Corum before, Its easyily the most well known game art contest entry on the internet, It was only a matter of time before someone pointed it out.
Regardless your character looks good keep goin :)
its still horribly obscure. just because it won a polycount competition doesnt mean its a given that every games developer knows of it.
'its still horribly obscure. just because it won a polycount competition doesnt mean its a given that every games developer knows of it.'
Yea your right about that not every developer knows of it, it was more the number of parrellels that made me think of Corum. The blue glowing eyes, the horns, the black tattoos around the eyes, the slicked back hair, the sillhoute, the weapon etc.
I didnt mean to sh*t on your work I was just suprised you hadnt heard of dominance war, your entry is solid :)Asmuel2006-09-29 07:04:23
Hi all thanks for the reply..
About the dominance war thing damn that is awesome!
The reason i didnt know about that is that i didnt have internet for 9 months! Basically was dying without it. I mainly used the work internet sometimes but hey we are supposed to work and no time to browse. Hell im not even supposed to post. I had to get permission to enter this competition. Im usually upto date with the whole dev community.
As far as my design and Corum design from dominance war. There is some similarities i noticed which is scary how artists think a like and im sure that the guy that designed the winning entry from dominance war got his ideas somewhere and did very good research and a damn good designer as well.
Well a lot of things look a like its just the way people look at it and point things out. Then the whole flow follows on.
Anyways thanks again really appreciate the comments and also great artwork from a lot of people.
USF: Yeah the shoulder pads ( i mean shields) are huge and can cut his head off but there is special bits underneath ...
dude... great work so far... big fan of your stuff ..
i thought corum at first as well... but they arent really that similar... everything has been done before to some extent..
cant wait to see it in a few days ... ive had my money (not real money) on yours from the begining..so dont let me down.. i want to brag that i got it right ;)
OK. Heres a head shot using default scanline ambient light ramped to 80% and 1 light.
Its almost the quality you get on a xbox 360 and PS3, withought the fancy shader stuff.
Diffuse, Normal and specular maps used.
I will be uploading the final images tonight. Im Still fixing up my texturing and specular map. Lucky this was extended.
Ok guys heres the final submission.
I used maya for modelling and rigging.
3D studio max for lighting and shader tests.
Zbrush for high-res details.
As usual photoshop for painting.
I put an extra image there to show the armor underneath the Doom shields.
This competition was fun and always has been.
Good luck to everyone that participated, I see a lot of great talent @ sumea.
hahahah oh *(&^%!!!!
well i dont think i'll be entering now :P
good luck chris!! :)
