Heya! I'm Declan and I'm keenly beginning my career in the games industry. I've been programming for over 10 years and always been keen about game design. I'm also particularly experienced in music and audio technology and have been working with digital audio for over 6 years. I'm interested in games programming (incl. gameplay, UI, and audio), game design, as well as soundtrack and audio work.
I'm currently working with a Sydney-based programming school called CODE4FUN, where I share my coding know-how with kids from early primary school all the way up to Year 12!
I've been interested in making games since I was still in primary school making text adventures in batch files ;). I've been using Unity since 2014, and over the last few years I've been expanding my experience in various environments, including Unreal Engine, GameMaker and Godot. I also have some experience with more low-level development, such as PyGame and homebrew libraries for Nintendo DS. I'm a fast learner, and I'm open to adapting to and working in any modern game development environment.
In 2023, I completed my Bachelor of Science in Games Development from the University of Technology Sydney with distinction. During University, I met a ton of amazing people and made some awesome game projects, including the medieval tactics game Gambit, and the physics-based swordplay game Heavy Metal. We've continued work on both of these games outside of study and hope to release them commercially some day.
I also have a keen interest in music and have independently commercially released several albums of electronic music as Apryl and previously as Delcan. I'm familiar with many facets of audio engineering, including sound design, mixing and mastering, and I would be very interested in working on a project in this area if there's interest. I'm especially keen to merge my audio skills with my experience in game development if the opportunity arises.
