Introduction

At Hipster Whale, we're passionate about creating bright and funny arcade action games that appeal to broad audiences — games that players will continue to enjoy for years to come! Our team is searching for an experienced QA Tester to help us deliver high quality games that people love.

Overview

As a seasoned bug catcher, you’ll know how to find, investigate, and report software defects, using clear and concise communication. You’ll be familiar with software testing methodologies and comfortable carrying out routine testing and reporting. With your keen attention to detail and exceptional problem-solving skills, very few defects will go undetected.

Working closely with our QA Engineer, you’ll ensure we have testing processes in place during all phases of development, with a focus on release management so we always have clarity on high priority issues. We're looking for someone who is genuinely passionate about the role of QA and takes pride in their work. While everyone at Hipster Whale contributes to our projects, it’s important to emphasise that this is not a junior design role but a critical, independent position within our studio. Unfortunately, this role is not suitable for those without any industry experience, as we are unable to provide training for candidates who don’t have any background in software testing.

This is a full-time, ongoing position based in Melbourne, Australia and candidates will require suitable Australian work rights. Due to the hardware-focused nature of the role, we are not able to consider remote work arrangements and you will be required to work on-site most days. We support flexible work arrangements and will accommodate requests whenever possible.

We’re proud to have an inclusive work environment and encourage members of all backgrounds and perspectives to apply!

Requirements

  • Software testing experience on shipped products
  • Excellent organisation, documentation, and communication skills
  • Able to prioritise tasks and triage bugs into working plans for release management
  • Familiarity with software testing methodologies
  • Able to perform routine tests, including Smoke, Regression, and Compatibility Testing
  • Familiarity with JIRA, Confluence, Excel/Google Sheets (or similar)
  • Worked on shipped mobile games (commercial games, hobby projects, etc.)
  • Must be legally able to work in Australia

Bonus Points

  • Able to start immediately
  • Apple Arcade or console experience
  • Experience managing or working with external QA and Compliance
  • Experience working in other disciplines
  • We’re also keen to hear about any other interests that you may have which could contribute positively to our studio!

  • Competitive salary depending on experience and skills
  • This is a full-time on-going position, based on-site in the heart on Melbourne
  • We aim to move through the recruitment process as quickly as possible and will respond to all applicants regardless of the outcome
  • Due to the large volume of applications that we receive, we’re unfortunately not able to provide specific feedback to each applicant
