Sumea Challenge #7- popawheelie - Challenger #8

Hello all,
Some good work goin' on here.
Just like to join the party you guys got goin here :)

I think i'll have a shot at the covert class. i just hope i have enough time to finish it.(quite busy atm)

Heres a rough. (wacom.ps)

I'm heading towards a sniper type character that has the tuff job of destroying/disabling tanks from a fairly safe distance. She is quite armoured, as i believe she would be hit from a fair bit of shrapnel once the tank knew she was in the area..

I'll post up a wip 3d soon :)

Hey cool stuff! I really like those silver/chrome bands on the side of the helmet. They looks really shiny and reflective. Nice painting there.

realy nice work looking real good.

Submitted by Lechy on Tue, 28/06/05 - 8:24 PM Permalink

Neat work popa. The helmet looks really good but the lion looks a bit too monotone for me.

Submitted by popawheelie on Tue, 28/06/05 - 9:31 PM Permalink

Thanks for the feed back guys.

lechy- I suppose it is a little monochrome, I tried to paint the tiger with a more dynamic palette, but it looks like a toy, and not a military machine. Im gunna use a few shaders (glowy bits) underneath, near the engine to but some colour in.

Submitted by goodgod on Wed, 29/06/05 - 10:08 AM Permalink

Man that looks awesome, how the hell do you do that? those details like fans and that mesh stuff? And how did you do those shiny pipe things on the back of the helmet? I?m stressing about not having enough time finishing my texture, I guess it?s my fault for leaving it to the last week.

Submitted by popawheelie on Wed, 29/06/05 - 10:27 PM Permalink

Thanks goodgod, I use ALOT of layers in Photoshop. I think i had over 150 layers for the tiger, gets tricky as u can get lost without labeling them properly. I usually work in corel painter then goto photoshop for finer detail, but for this, i just when straight into PShop. Things like fans and mesh are just layers, there arent all fully drawn out, just a suggestion.

As far as time goes, im pushing it too, Ive been workin on other stuff, (im working on a demo reel) It would have been good to have worked on this more solidly throughtout the 3 months, but sadly that wasnt an option.

Submitted by DarkAngel on Thu, 30/06/05 - 2:42 AM Permalink

Thanks for ya feedback, here's some more renders, this one is the back of the model. The bit down the middle of the back is a spine protector, also helps the armor move, i guess.

Hahah thats looking really cool! I love the shininess [:D] You could probably go over the texture again and add one more detail pass, perhaps a few sharp nicks and scratches (if that is what you want) But it does look pretty nice now anyway :)

looking really good, nothing to crit at all, i posted ages ago that a mount would be cool so its awesome to see that you managed to pull one off. especially such a high quality one.

I love the latest render of your character and cat posed. I agree with the others too, amazing detail level and a high quality of work.

Submitted by popawheelie on Sat, 02/07/05 - 11:11 PM Permalink

Thanks for the feedback guys, Re-rigged it last night. My max file corupted after i initially rigged it for the pose above, tried all the usual tricks to get it back, but alas no luck. (it looked like parts of the model where melting >:-0 ) I was aiming to have it in the engine but I'm working all weekend (actually at work at the moment) The initial rig wasnt really complex but assigning verts and naming takes time. The new rig is really bare bones, built for posing. Glad we dont have to do run cycles, etc, for the comp. I would have liked to concerntrate on one character than sharing the requirements (polies, textures etc) over basically 2 characters. Anywho, all done now.

ANyways, thanks again for your feedback!
Ill post up the final soon.

(although I think Tony was trying to get a really late entry in.) Hows zbrush goin? Im giving a demo on highpoly zbush for normal mapping in a month or so in class.(if u are around, i could use your input.) Im trying to push for normal mapping in the game. The version of Renderware we are using suports it. I will post up some of the new stuff im doing in the 'WIP exhibition' forum. Im working on my demo reel, so it be great if u could post some feedback/crits.
