I've noticed that this was written about in the forum, and it's also on Slashdot as well, but there's a new two-day expo planned for Perth next year called "GO3 - Electronic Entertainment Expo 2007". A snippet on the website says about the expo:
GO3 is an exciting three-day Electronic Entertainment Exp that will showcase the latest in games hobbies and electronic entertainment. The Expo is for companies and consumers with a passion for state-of-the-art, interactive leisure pursuits.
Held in Perth WA - Australia's gateway to Asia and Europe - GO3 is without doubt the southern hemisphere hub for the world's leading electronic entertainment cmpanies.
Price isn't so bad, about $70 for a 2 day pass, and $190 for a superpass to all the events etc.
Dunno if it affects much game developers though being on the west coast, bit of a travel distance, no game development studios i'm aware of on the west coast.
Click on exhibitor on their website, and you'll see that they have the support of IGDA, and so they're planning to have workshops and sessions on game development.
It looks like they're trying to fill absolutely every interest when it comes to games. Companies (room for over a hundred exhibitors), consumers (huge 600 person lan, tournaments), and game developers (lectures, workshops, Nullabor demo competition). It's pretty impressive.
Oh my god....look at the speakers they have, with still 6 months to the launch...I will be going from Sydney.beats traveling over seas to see such a line up....well done west coast....we are all comming....
