Next Melbourne International Game Developers Meetup Day

(from the forum, posted by Binh)

This is open to suggestion)

The next game developer's meetup is

8PM August 16th
La Porchetta
308 Victoria Street
NORTH MELBOURNE 3051

I suggest we grab a chat/drink/dinner there and then pop next door where there is a game lan centre.

Please rsvp here or on the meetup site so I can book numbers.

There's no organiser and I can't be one since I don't have a credit card so if you can please pass the word on. For more details visit gamedev.meetup.com

Are you aware the we have an International Game Developers Assosciation meeting organised once every month or so at the Canada Bar in Swanson Street? Its basically a chance to get together and chat, eat and drink as you suggest and from tiem to time has guest speakers and the like.

    More info here. www.igda.org/melbourne

Next get together is 14th of September.

    Thanks Jackablade.

Before I started trying to drum up interest in this event I always thought the IDGA was for professionals. I've only recently learnt that it's for everyone. I think I'll run the following dinner once since it's already been organised and then start going to the IDGA one!

    Binh, it's the IGDA! :)

And while no-one can argue it is for everyone, the IGDA as an organisation is targetting professional developers. You might find Yusuf Pisan's comments here interesting http://staff.it.uts.edu.au/~ypisan/blog/?p=31 but I certainly don't want to discourage anyone from getting involved with the IGDA.

That blog is associated with the actual membership,

In regards to the IGDA melbourne chapter, it's started up last year, the brain child of David Hewitt of Tantalus. And the meetings have been a successful, the ones I have been to (I've been to two so far).

So you don't need to pay the S100 to get into the meetings either, it's open to all.

Yep, that's why I said "as an organisation". I wasn't meaning anything about chapters.

Yes, I am aware, but unfortunately that falls on a Wednesday as well so I am not sure if I can make it there as well. Been a member of IGDA for 3 years now, have never been to a chapter meeting though. But I definitely will be coming down on Nov for the showcase that David has agreed to put up.
