TY Level design

Hello,
I wasa wondering if anybody know how level design was done
in Ty. I would like to write a game like that, but am unsure
on how to move forward.
Could you just design a level in 3ds and import it?
Would I have to develop my own level editor ?
How is the landscape done ? the moutains / road you can run up and down on ?

Basically what would be needed to accomplise this type of game.

cheers

I'm not going to talk specifically about Ty, but in answer to some of your questions...

"Could you just design a level in 3ds and import it?"
Yes, but for a large level it will be inefficient to disaply the entire level every frame, and things will be veeerry slow.

"Would I have to develop my own level editor ?"
No, but you would likely want to write some sort of level loading function to break the level into bite sized chunks so you can cull parts of the level that aren't visible.

"Basically what would be needed to accomplise this type of game."
Oh, about 5 programmers, 5-10 artists, and about 16 months :P

Damn straight. pay for a team like that would be Steep! 5 programmers say 30K a piece 10 artists say 30K a piece -> that is already round 600 K than of course management etc.. and you be poor as.. by the end of it all.. .

Best bet, GRANTS.

I know exactly how they were done :) But telling how it was done would no doubt breach my employee agreement, so I'd say go with Blitz's advice as they're pretty good all-round ideas/rules for developing games and levels.
