Heatseeker, a title being developed for the Wii, PS2 and PSP by Aussie developer IR Gurus, is an avionic action game, with players taking to the skies in lethal jets, swapping bullets and missiles, and showering explosive debris onto the ground below. The game takes command of the Wii’s unique control system for that console’s release, giving players a whole new way to engage in air combat, while the PSP is being designed with an entirely different storyline, and ad hoc multiplayer capability – meaning that you can take your friends on in air-to-air combat.
Gaetano Prestia, Editor for MyWii caught up with Ben Palmer, Executive Producer over at IR Gurus, to talk about Heatseeker, and to get the inside scoop on the extent it takes advantage of the Wii’s capabilities.
The Wii version is about 6 months in. It's at a kind of stage where we can experiment with all the Wii specific features, playing with the Wii controller for example. The Wii remote is a different way to go and we want to introduce mechanisms such as enabling you to select multiple targets and launch a wave of missiles at them. There is also quite a bit we can do with the rendering engine one with the Wii, we want to explore it a bit more, there are a number of effects still in development.
