Freeplay announced today that the 2010 Freeplay Independent Games Festival will be held at the State Library of Victoria on August 14th & 15th.
Freeplay is Australia's only independent games festival, and focuses on the creative and artistic side of making games. It presents a diverse program of lectures, panel discussions, workshops, an independent games expo and an education showcase.
The theme of Freeplay 2010 is 'Play is Everywhere'. Using the overarching theme, Freeplay will examine the big questions of creativity, learning, play, and how they connect to the practical processes of game development.
Freeplay Direct, Eve Penford-Dennis is very excited Freeplay is returning to the State Library of Victoria this year.
'This year's Freeplay is covering a lot of ground and the State Library is a wonderful location for it. This year we'll look at how gaming has changed over the past few years, its place in the wider community, the opportunities for personal expression, the practicalities of making games, and on the excitement of creating new things - and on making sure our audience feels that same excitement. Expect Freeplay 2010 to be interactive, surprising, inspiring, and above all creative,' she said.
Freeplay 2010 will also explore the place of games in the broader culture, and the intersections between non-digital games, art, eduction, and professional and indie development.
