It's with shock and a deep sadness to report that Tim Richards has passed away. I've corresponded with Tim since 2003, and have always admired him for his enormous contributions to the Australian game development industry. From his work on the GDAA newsletter, his monthly newsletter on the games industry at gamenews.com.au, his efforts in organising game dev related events at Dissecta, it was all too obvious that he was extremely passionate about the local games industry.
Over the years, we've shared messages on his joy of being a new father, his health, and many ideas on the games industry. While I live in another state from Tim, I did manage to have a brief chat to him at Freeplay 2004 where he gave a session on the 'legalities of game development'.
The local games industry has lost a great asset and I'd like to share my condolences and thoughts to Tim's family.
Tim was just 36, and is survived by his wife Sanae and son Conan.
Screenplay's Jason Hill has written an execeptional tribute to Tim at Screenplay, so please head on over there to read more about Tim and his work. There are also some details on how you can donate to a fund to support his wife and son.
