PollDaddy.com, the service conducting the poll for or against the introduction of an R rating classification in Australia, has refined the poll votes on request by the Standing Committee of Attorneys-General who are relying on the results to determine whether the classification will go ahead. An official from PollDaddy.com has stated that voting abuses (such as votes containing duplicate ips) have been removed from the poll, updating the questionable results of 47% (7388 votes for) and 53% (8283 votes against) to a more believable 97% (7388 votes for) and 3% (239) against.
During the Committee meeting in South Australia, South Australian Attorney-General Michael Atkinson has announced that he will no longer hinder the R rating classification process, and concedes that the classification may actually be a good idea...
Due to the overwhelming support for the classification from the media and the public, and in light of the recent poll results, I have decided to show my support for the new classification. While violent games are an ongoing concern for our children, I understand that the lack of an R18+ classification denies adults the choice to play some games. With the new system in place, games will be placed more accuratety in their appropriate rating by the OFLC, and parents can rely more heavily on it.
More news on when the new classification will arrive when we have it.
