There's a great interview over at Newsweek's Level Up with none other than Australian director, producer, writer, George Miller, on his interest in being involved in the game development process. You might know George from films like Mad Max, Babe, and Happy Feet. There certainly have been a lot of interest from established film directors to dabble with game production, from the Wachowski brothers, to Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, John Woo, and... uh.. Uwe Boll.
George is fascinated with the game medium, and acknowledges the convergence of film towards games and vice versa, but he has been wanting to get involved for some time now. And while he was too busy to participate in the development of the Happy Feet game, he's planning a bigger role for the game adaptaion of the Mad Max: Road to Fury film which will be in development with God of War II director, Cory Barlog. From the Level Up interview....
(George Miller) As Seamus said, I think what happened is a lot of filmmakers looked up one day and saw that games were in many ways eclipsing film. Eclipsing film in even the box office, as it were; I don't know if they call it box office in games, but, revenues. And so [some of these filmmakers] said, "Okay let's get into the game business."
