Qantm 'Gets Into Games' at Ballarat

Qantm College was present at the inaugural Ballarat "Get into Games" event held at the old Minerals Exchange building last weekend. The event was organised by Martin Wilkes for the Ballarat Council as part of their push to better connect Ballarat with what is happening in the capital cities.

"It was great to see such a committed gathering of developers, educators, government and game companies looking to support those interested in the video games industry." said Martin Wilkes, "Ballarat Council should be congratulated on taking an event with National interest direct to the regional centre of Victoria."

All levels of the games industry were represented with Auran showing off the latest build of their MMOG 'Fury' which is slated for release before Christmas as well as computer and equipment suppliers like Altec and Nvidia.

Education providers were well represented with the local Ballarat University and AIE both showing what courses they had to offer. Qantm also had a stand and it was great to have the excellent work done by Qantm graduates to show off which was of an industry standard and impressed all that saw it. 'Final Justice', the Qantm College student project that won 'Best Unsigned Game' at Games Connect Asia Pacific last year got a good work out with many 'players' wanting to take a copy home.

A lot of interest was shown by attendees in the Qantm College offerings with many signing up for both upcoming open days & 'Study @ Qantm for the day' events. Strong interest was also shown in Qantm's VET in Schools and Funded Skills Voucher programs by teachers and parents alike.

"This was a really successful event for Qantm. We really didn't know what to expect coming out to Ballarat" said Qantm General Manager, Bryn Giles, "But the level of enthusiasm and keen interest shown by the Ballarat locals means we will be back again next year"
