The Adelaide Advertiser has reported that local mobile phone developer Kukan Studio has released, in collaboration with several partners including UniSA and Cibro Expresso, a community mobile phone network that allows users to access a vast quantity of applications; including access to local events, playing games, instant messaging services, and creative content. It is called the Podmo Network. Che Metcalfe, Managing director of Kukan Studio, said the following:
The community is not just for the end user. It involves retailers, advertisers, sporting teams, education, all across the board. We're trying to make mobile telecommunications tools freely accessible to anyone.
That includes making mobile content, publishing mobile content and accessing mobile content.
The idea is to create, publish and enjoy mobile content at either very low cost or no cost.
The idea is said to be of the same vein as the popular ‘Youtube’ or ‘Myspace’, in that it endeavours to create a community. The Podmo Network follows a different path that what may be expected when it comes to this kind of infrastructure.
Traditional telcos say 'we own the network, we're going to charge you for the network'. We say we own the network, use it as much as you want for free.

26thfeb - Podmo is finally live in Adelaide. Touch-screens should be working some time today too and can be found around town including Cibo outlets. I will hopefully be posting some art/design content on the forum relating to Podmo too some time soon :)
