Online Distributed Opportunity

(received via email)

Hi
Here is a gauntlet for you, pull pin and run

It will soon be possible to download small low cost, self contained games game not only onto the XBox 360, but also the PSP and upcoming PS3 (based upon Sony?s GDC announcements), also don?t forget Stardocks recent success on PC.

People like this, Galaxy wars has been the only thing worth playing on the 360 for a while. Galatic Civ II on the PC has been a big success. This new distribution model cuts out the marketing muppet, distribution chain, shelf and box.

Is this a new golden dawn for all you self proclaimed frustrated creative game types out there in Sumea land hoarse from complaining about the risk adverse nature of mass market games? Is it the answer to your prayers?

No offence but? often this sites forums too often seems to degenerate into sour grapes, whining, axe grinding, flame wars, personnel attacks, basically fat babies, with little that resembles constructive comments or knowledge sharing.

The way I see it, is this new channel offers a chance to get off our collective coke and pizza enlarged ass?s and do something which stands a good chance of getting out there?
something that will be judged on its own merits..

with no hiding behind the bad publisher / license / or marketing campaign?

the naked game developer, if you like?

so how are you, dear gifted (look it up in German) reader up for it?

Otherwise, just go away.

Over and Out
W.

its true though, most games releases on xbox live arcade are enjoying very good sales and some of them are the simplest of simple designs.

The mobile phone game industry started that way too, and now that the number of games is bigger than word-of-mouth can cope with the franchises are the only things that the public will buy.

Ah well, Who can take an email like this dated April 1 seriously? :)

You guys can put a negative spin on anything :)

On the upside, in the early stages of this market you can develop and foster your own franchise and/or brand. It's not easy, but it can be done :)

As a delivery medium, it does have promise - as it brings 'small' games into the living room (as against to the PC, where they have been for 10years+...).

But apart from one game in particular, Im not sure how successful / profitable other games have/will be. Nor have I seen much in terms of sales figures (more spin than anything else).

I for one will be waiting for the Revolution and Nintendo's Virtual Console - and I would love to see them open that up to 'home-grown' developers. No way I am paying $700AU to play Galaxy Wars (or whatever it is called..) in the meantime :)

Oh no, of course not, keep waiting. World of Warcraft with millions of users at $15 a pop per month isn't a strong enough indication that this is where the industry should be headed. Idiots....

When you finally find yourself amongst the dinosaurs, it'll be too late.
