(from David Hewitt)
G'day all.
Yes, you read the subject line right, the next IGDA Melbourne Chapter Meeting is THIS Thursday. And no, you didn't miss any emails - this is, in fact, the first you've heard of it. Apologies for the short notice.
The reason this announcement is somewhat tight is that we've been waiting until we could confirm a VERY SPECIAL GUEST for the meeting - Greg Costikyan (http://www.costik.com/weblog/). Thanks to the very good people organising the Free Play conference (http://www.free-play.org/), Greg's in town, and he's very kindly
offered to come along to our chapter meeting. We haven't twisted his arm into giving a specific presentation at the meeting, but he's been made aware that the soapbox is available, should he feel the desire to step up onto it. I was fortunate enough to hear Greg speak at the now infamous "Burning Down The House" session at this year's GDC, and I'm very much looking forward to meeting the man, and hearing what he has
to say.
Thanks very much to Greg for agreeing to attend our little get-together, to the Free Play organisers for bringing him all the way down to sunny Melbourne, and to Ben Palmer (industry veteran and chapter organiser) for talking Greg into taking the time to come and meet with us.
We'll be playing it by ear a little bit, and there's no specific agenda, but it should be a good chance to have a beer and a chat before Free Play gets into full swing the next morning. Please join us - it'd be great to see you there.
The time: 7pm, Thursday, July 14th.
The place: The Canada Hotel, Swanston St, Carlton, in the big room out the back, a.k.a "The Barn".
Entry is free, and there's no need to bring anything except maybe a few dollars for beer, if that's your thing.
Thanks,
-David.
