MIDWAY Australia is looking for the best talent in the business to work on exciting, AAA budget character based action games for PS2 and Next Generation consoles. Due to continued growth Midway is currently seeking a number of Level Designers, Animators and Artists.
We are looking for creative, motivated, multi-skilled professionals who have the following essential skills. All applications must be accompanied by non-returnable relevant samples of their work.

Level Designers

Essential Requirements

  • Experience with game content development tools such as UnrealEd, Q3Radiant, Crytek Sandbox
  • Passion for creating and playing cutting-edge games for consoles
  • Great sense for what makes a game, or level, fun to play
  • Ability to work independently but take direction when needed
  • Contribute positively and work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to think creatively to resolve technical challenges and limitations
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • The following attributes will be considered a distinct advantage:

  • Strong game design skills
  • Experience creating levels in 3D Studio Max 6 or other 3D level editors
  • Have shipped AAA PC or console titles
  • Scripting experience
  • Value tuning experience (setting up AI/Physics/SFX behaviours)
  • Games Industry experience
  • Senior and Junior Artists - 3D modelers, Concept Artists, Texture Artists and Graphic Designers
    Essential Requirements

  • Experience with 3D Studio Max and Photoshop or other 3D/2D packages
  • Ability to modify and create efficient and effective textures, 3D models
  • Work in production team in various stages of modeling, texturing and lighting at very proficient level
  • Ability to work independently but take direction when needed
  • Contribute positively and work collaboratively in a team environment
  • The following attributes will be considered a distinct advantage:

  • Games Industry experience
  • Tertiary design education qualification
  • Avid Gamer
  • Animators ? Animator Lead, Senior Character Animator, Junior Animators

    Animation Team Lead

    Animation Lead is responsible for leading the animation staff to create and implement all animations for the game, meeting technical, quality and artistic requirements, managing work flow and schedule for the team. They are also responsible for working with the tools and technology team to ensure that the team has the tools necessary to implement the game?s vision. 3 to 4 years of experience as a lead or senior animator is preferred.

    Essential Requirements

  • Experience in execution and craft of 3D/2D character animations
  • Experience with 3D Studio Max /Character Studio/Maya
  • Strong understanding of classic animation principles and fundamentals (squash and stretch, staging, timing, anticipation, exaggeration).
  • Understanding of motion capture techniques
  • Passion for creating and playing cutting-edge games
  • Ability to work independently but take direction when needed
  • Ability to provide leadership and direction to the animation team
  • Ability to evaluate animation work and animators output and supply construction criticism
  • Ability to motivate animation team
  • A desire to push yourself and others creatively and technically
  • The following attributes will be considered a distinct advantage:

  • Familiar with game design and programming and the ability to communicate and coordinate with either
  • Storyboard visualization experience
  • Experience in post production (directing linear/non linear edit suits)
  • Film or Video script and direction terminology
  • Diploma or Degree in 3D/2D animation or Visual Design
  • Senior Character Animator

    A Senior Character Animator is responsible for the implementation of in-game character animation. Working under the direction of the Lead Animator, the Senior Character animator will be involved in designing, testing, tuning and setup of in-game character animation systems. They will work closely with the programming team to actively find creative solutions to technical limitations. 2 to 3 years of minimum experience as character animator is preferred.

    Essential Requirements

  • Technically proficient in 3D animation, skeletal setup and character rigging using 3D Studio Max and Character Studio or Maya.
  • Strong understanding of classic animation principles and fundamentals (squash and stretch, staging, timing, anticipation, exaggeration).
  • Self motivated and eager to learn
  • Able to contribute positively and effectively in a team environment
  • Interest in and knowledge of video games
  • The following attributes will be considered a distinct advantage

  • Experience in motion capture clean up
  • Industry experience in Game Development
  • Storyboard visualization experience
