It's been a busy last few months for Surprise Attack, the new marketing agency for local independent games developers established by games developer veteran and former Marketing Director at THQ's Australian studios, Chris Wright.
After taking on a whole bunch of indie developers onboard for a beta trial of their services late last year, Surprise Attack are happy to announce that they're out of beta and have 12 indie studios onboard for the whole range of their marketing and consulting expertise this year.
Surprise Attack will be leading the efforts of promoting ten games for the first half of 2012, with a total of 20-25 predominantly mobile and tablet games slated for this year. The new service has proven to be filling a much needed void for the local independent games industry...
“One of our key learnings from the beta was that there is huge demand for the kind of services we offer,” said Chris Wright, founder of Surprise Attack. “We spoke with around 50 developers during the beta period. A common trend was that they know they need help with marketing their games but a great many don't want to sign up with a publisher – they want to build their studio brand and have more control over the marketing.
“That's where an agency such as Surprise Attack can really work for these teams – we provide scale, expertise and connections but the developer is always in control and always comes first.”
One developer who's happy with the work of Surprise Attach are Melbourne indie developers, The Voxel Agents. Initially signed on for the beta service, they've decided to stay on as happy customers...
“We had a great experience working with Surprise Attack on the launch of Train Conductor 2:USA for Android,” commented Simon Joslin from The Voxel Agents. “We had no hesitation in signing on again for the launch of our next game, coming later this year.”
