RENDER CONFERENCE (Melbourne International Animation Festival)

Location

The Melbourne International Animation Festival is fast approaching, and this year we’re excited to introduce a brand new offering for animation professionals, students and enthusiasts. RENDER is our very first annual conference!

Over two big days, expect authoritative discussions on topics as diverse as the development of CG & 3D animation, international perspectives on teaching animation at a tertiary level, advice on the prerequisites to establishing an independent studio in one of the most competitive marketplaces in the world, overviews of what it takes to push an indie animation project beyond it’s indie-confined envelope... and much more.

RENDER will also include evening screenings that relate directly to, and cast a clarifying light on, some of the topics presented during the day sessions.

Spaces are strictly limited.

We're still adding more speakers, so in jump on board the Facebook or Twitter train to keep up to date. We'd appreciate it if you could pass this on to your friends & networks in animation land.

RENDER takes place during the Melbourne International Animation Festival (MIAF), running from June 20-30 at the Australian Centre For The Moving Image (ACMI), Federation Square, Melbourne.

• Terrence Masson (USA)
An extensive, detailed outline of the trajectory of computer generated animation from its earliest, unpromising flashing dots to the powerhouse platform that it is today - delivered by Terrence Masson, a noted CG animation historian and archivist, past SIGGRAPH CAF Chair and Executive Professor of Creative Industries at Northeastern University in Boston.

• Tom Mortimer, 12Foot6 (UK)

• Koji Yamamura (JAPAN)

Jeff founded this Vancouver based Webby award-winning and Emmy® nominated studio in 2000. Operating under the decidedly DIY slogan "Keeping It Old School", he has built up a client roster which includes 3M International, Post-it Notes, Sharpie and a range of major Canadian corporates. Their short films have screened at over 150 festivals around the world, they have just completed their first feature length documentary and working towards a 2014 completion of another.

• Andrew Hagan (AUSTRALIA)
Lecturer BA (Animation and Visual Effects), Faculty of Arts, Charles Sturt University + Co-Director Australian International Animation Festival
Andrew possesses an apparently bottomless passion for teaching the next generation of Australian animators the skills they need while ensuring they understand animation is also an artform. He has some interesting things on his mind about the state of animating today in Australia.
