Camshaft Software is a small Wellington-based games studio. We produce technically focused management, tycoon, and simulation games for enthusiasts and nerds. Our premier title ‘Automation - The Car Company Tycoon Game’ is in active development (Early Access) and we recently released a smaller project called ‘The Cyclist: Tactics’.
Job Description
Work together with the Lead Designer on creating prototypes of new games and specific game mechanics as standalone 2D-game projects. Engage in the design loop and iterate on concepts, bringing game mechanics to life with quick iteration times. Find efficient technical solutions for computation- and data-heavy game aspects. Create simple 2D art that is suitable for prototypes. Implement UI to drive player interaction and visualize data.
Qualifications
- Strong portfolio showcasing skills in the development of games
- Ability to implement physics-, simulation-, and gameplay-code
- Experience with GameMaker Studio 2
- Skills in creating 2D art at a level adequate for use in prototypes
- Ability to analyze and provide accurate feedback on designs and mechanics
- Strong work ethic and self-motivated
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
- Experience with source control
- Strong math skills
- A love for simulation, strategy, and technical games with deep mechanics
- Passionate about playing, thinking about, and making video games
Desirable
- Ability to write code that is expandable and fast to iterate on
- UI/UX design skills
- Good 2D art skills, strong understanding of color and composition
- Familiarity with Google spreadsheets or Excel
- Experience with SQL / SQLite
- Familiarity with C++
- Perforce knowledge
- An interest in sports and training
