We're quite accustomed to getting games banned or edited here in Australia, and the way we've got around that was to import uncut versions from New Zealand where they're a bit more lax with violent games.
Well, it seems things may be changing, as news comes of "Manhunt", a fairly graphicly violent game from those who seem to excell in them, Rockstar Games, getting the axe in New Zealand...
"Manhunt, a DVD-ROM console game produced in Playstation 2 format, is the first video game banned by the Office of Film and Literature Classification.Chief censor Bill Hastings said today while computer games appeared to be getting more "edgy", Manhunt went further than any game previously referred to his office.
"It's a game where the only thing you do is kill everybody you see," he said. "It gets worse. Not only do you have to kill everybody you see, you can choose to kill 'mild,' 'medium' or 'hot'."
We'll have to see if Manhunt gets banned in Australia (which seems pretty likely). If so, I guess we'll all have to import it from the UK :) Read the article over at smh.com.au
