How to Survive and Thrive at GDC

The Games Developers Conference is the premiere global event for the games industry. Danu Abeysuriya from Rush Digital and Chris Harris from NinjaKiwi will give reports, tips and holiday snaps from their trip to GDC '11 in San Francisco last month.

Cross Platform Monkeying around

Monkey is the latest games programming language from Auckland-based cult games tool maker Blitz Research. Games written in Monkey can be translated into Flash, iPhone, iPad, Android, HTML5, C#/XNA and OpenGL. Stephen Knightly was a beta tester and will show us the pros and cons of this new language for speeding up cross-platform development.

Dream, Build, Play and Ludum Dare

Michael Schaeffers will talk about the Dream.Build.Play Challenge to create a Xbox 360 game using XNA Game Studio 4.0, with the promise of fame, prizes and riches.

The next Ludum Dare 48-hour game making challenge is also happening from 29 April-2 May.

INTO online gaming?

Into is a genetically engineered hybrid of Home Brand, Gamespy and Facebook. It's no frills, its semi-social, and its all about games. You can log in, find people from your country who are Into the same games as you, get their gamertag/PSNiD, and leave. Simon Verbiest will show us the beta of this new free service for gamers.
