[Sydney, Australia] BigWorld Pty Ltd is supporting the Global Game Jam (GGJ) local Sydney event, held at the Power House Museum where a group of professional and amateur developers and artists will compete against each other in teams to produce a game in under 48hrs.
A number of public events will coincide with the event and BigWorld’s Chief Operating Officer; Steve Wang will participate on an expert panel entitled Computer Games from the 1980's to today.
“It’s a great pleasure to be a part of such an exciting event. In today's environment where game production costs millions of dollars, it’s great to return to the idea where you can simply lock yourself away for 48 hrs and focus purely on innovative game ideas”, commented Steve Wang, COO of BigWorld.
Currently 139 local Jam sites are registered to participate in the global event from January 29-31 in their respective local time zones. Last year’s event boasted 1600 participants in 23 countries who produced a total of 370 games.
About Global Game Jam
The Global Game Jam (GGJ) was founded in 2008 as an IGDA event to broaden the outreach of the organization while giving the world an opportunity to create games in the world’s largest Game Jam to date. The 1st Annual Global Game Jam was held January 30-Feburary 1, 2009 to much critical acclaim and success. With over 1600 participants in 23 countries, the GGJ produced 370 games.
Sydney will be joining the Jam for the first time in 2010, with the inaugural Game Jam Sydney, jointly organised by the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and the Sydney chapter of the International Game Developers Association (IGDA). Fifty jammers will be spending 48 hours together in the Learning Centre of the Powerhouse Museum in non-stop game-innovation.
