If you thought e-sports was a concept confined to mad South Koreans, think again. A group of Melbourne Counter-Strike players going by the name Team Immunity made it to this years e-sports world cup in Paris to compete against teams from over 40 countries, many of them with professional sponsorship. Team Immunity is not entirely on their own though, and class themselves as "semi-professional", even being able to find a few sponsors to help with costs, and allow them to compete on some of the latest equipment.
"We still have a long way to go compared to the real professional teams elsewhere," he says. "If our guys get out of the group stage, they will get a $500 bonus. Other teams I know of will get bonuses well into five figures."
