Gamasutra have a rather casual interview / conversation with Steve Stamatiadis, Creative Director at Krome Studios, about Blade Kitten as well as a whole lot of nostalgia for 2D games long passed.
What was interesting to read is why Steve and his team decided to have a go at another original I.P title after such a long period working on big licensed games, why DLC is good for Krome Studios, and why Krome would rather not see the appearance of the Playstation 4 any time soon.
So why did Krome make a return to developing original I.P games again? From Gamasutra...
(Steve)... we thought, "Look, we've done that outsource stuff long enough; let's do our own IP, and let's put the sort of money into it that we usually shove into doing other stuff...
...Look, I'm in this to make games. I don't really care about going off and doing other big titles."
The interview discusses the many influences for Blade Kitten, which the team have cherry picked their favourite elements from games such as Power Stone to the memorable arcade classics like Strider, Ninja Warriors, Shinobi, and Legend of Kage for, as well as what was lost when the games industry moved towards 3D games.
Blade Kitten is coming out in September with Atari handling the publishing duties on the Xbox 360 Arcade, Playstation Network, and PC.
