L.A Noire Release and Platform Details?

Company

Hey, it may not be much, but every bit of news about the highly anticipated and possibly most ambitious locally developed title, L.A Noire, is very much worth posting about! In a news item at Eurogamer concerning episodic content for Grand Theft Auto IV on the Xbox 360, some tidbits were also revealed for Team Bondi's detective thriller...

The financial report also stated that fellow Take-Two title LA Noire is due out in fiscal 2008. The spokesperson suggested that both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 releases are likely, stating, "LA Noire is being developed for next-generation systems."

Y cant it be set in Australia its dumb. R all our companys ashamed to be AUSSIE or sumthing. Dont give me that crap about the game only being set in USA just so it sells. The US all say that AUSTRALIA IS JUST LIKE THEM so it shuld'nt matter if it's set here. PS I tuypt this on my Wii.

Why SHOULD it be set in Australia? I'd want to hear a lot more about the story and game play before deciding where it should be set and why.

Also, "Aussie" games devs making "Aussie" themed games for the sake of being "Aussie" kind of makes me gag. Heh heh, imagine it, "Sydney Noire", sounds really dark and brooding doesn't it? :P Funny thing is it could be, if it were done well. Although for various reasons I can't think of a local studio who could produce a "Sydney Noir" without it winding up cheesy, or a publisher with enough balls to back an idea like that. LA is a safe bet.

Best of luck to them, I was quite impressed by some early media releases I saw a while ago.

I don't see the need for all aussie game makers to set their games in Australia. Only when appropriate I would say.

Maestro, it would be nice to have at least some mainstream, commerical games set in Australia or with Australian characters. Apart from Krome's Ty series, I can't think of anything.

Post 1 - Unfortunately, the American market is the most important English speaking market. Therefore, to be successful, a game has to appeal to this market, and that means pandering to the whims (or listening to the marketing insight) of US based publishers and focus groups.

Post 4 - In full agreement about avoiding kneejerk, Waltzing Matilda ockerism use of Aust. themes and settings. However, I also think we should avoid thinking of US themes and settings as the default for games. While the cheesiness you mention is a real concern, I think a lot of such cheesiness would devolve from US based publishers efforts to make the game conform with their preconceptions of what Australia is like. I seem to remember Krome being required to change various environments at the behest of their publishers because 'Australia doesn't have jungles or mangroves'.

We need some quality Australian games like kangaroo racing and kangaroo boxing...

The sad thing about 'Australian' games is that sport titles such as AFL/NRL/Cricket just don't get the love that games such as Madden etc. get. I'm well aware that the Australian market is just no where near as big as the US and all that yada yada but that's my sad face for the day :(.... and it's also not really on topic..

The game sounds really sweet though and it's certainly something I'd check out if I owned a 360 or a ps3 ^_^. Keep

I never said that all of them
have to be in AUS. I just like the idea of a game like this set in AUS thats all.

The title gives it away. The style is Noire, as in movie. Can you think of any Australian Noire movies? Nope... Neither can I... LA will have to do.
I understand and agree, there ARE too few games that don't show Austraain cultural aspects. But since it's made in oz at least be proud to say that it still looks badass, and we made it (as a collective. I had no part in it). Still, would you buy media based on a French Love story whilst you were living in France?

the getaway was an awful game.. they better do better with this one... especially with the time they have had to make it. I can't see LA noire getting the same hype and advertising as the getaway, so i doubt it will sell that well. Seems to ambitious of a project for a first title for team bondi
