Yet another Developer Day over at IGN Australia, and this time they set off to take the grand tour over at Pandemic Studios, located in Fortitude Valley, Queensland. Business Director, Christie Cooper, showed the IGN team around personally, and definitely proved to be a good guide, giving a good perspective of what it’s like in a senior position in a game developer company. Here’s what Christie had to say on maintaining a low turn-over rate on employees:
What we've done that I think differentiates us from many other companies, not just in the games development industry. We have a full-time quality-of-life manager who works out of the L.A. office. Sam in the US, and Tricia Butler in admin work together to create what you see here. It's a really very collaborative approach though, where everyone is involved.
It definitely looks like a fun and friendly place to work, with some great art work and fun designs hanging around the offices. However, as a growing company, it appears as though the current residence is only a temporary one, with a new large block of offices being looked at for a future move as the Pandemic family grows.
We also try and celebrate around the different cultures we have in the office - you'd be surprised how many people go for a Thanksgiving celebration!
