Handmade - Freeplay 2011 is on this week

Freeplay is on this weekend!! It's a big one and there's a whole lot happening. For those of you not subscribed to the Freeplay newsletter or haven't been following the Freeplay updates, then please read below for the latest news and update from Freeplay! Just a reminder, if you haven't ordered your tickets online yet, please do it soon! Last year's event was completely sold out, so do hurry!

It’s here! Festival week. We’ve been updating our blog on all things Freeplay including speaker interviews, more detail on our brand new Playful Program, the projects up for our 2011 Awards, and whatever else crosses our festival-addled brains. It's all so big though that we still have loads to tell you - and loads to look forward to over the 5 days of Freeplay,

Program
Full details of our program, sessions, and speakers are up on our website. Don’t worry though, we have printed versions of it for the weekend. And they look great thanks to the brilliant Pachinko Pictures.

Ticketing
Tickets are still available for our Full Program that runs from August 17 – 21 and our Conference Program taking place over the weekend of August 20 & 21, but if last year is anything to go by, we’ll sell out very soon.

Sales of Full Program tickets will be available until 7:00 Wednesday, August 17, but we might still have some individual sessions available or tickets available on the door. Conference program tickets will be available up until Friday night.

Check out our website for full ticketing options.

Free Events
Taking place over the whole weekend in the Experimedia room of the State Library, the Freeplay Arcade and Expo is completely free. Come along and play a bunch of locally developed indie games, meet their creators, and find about pathways into game development from local education providers.

On top of that, we also have a new Interview Series taking place in the Wheeler Centre on Sunday, August 21. Local developers Steve Fawkner, Farbs, Alex Bruce, and Simon Joslin will be talking about their experiences, failures, and their creative journeys.

(un)Keynote
We have a bunch of slides from some incredibly brilliant people, but we still want more. If you have an idea around our theme of Handmade, we’d love to hear it – and stitch it together into our crowdsourced keynote. The plan and how to submit are available on our website.

And that’s it…
…for now at least. We have a secret project we’re working on that will take place in late September that we’re almost as excited about as we are about Freeplay itself. Perhaps some of it will be revealed over the weekend, but if not, there won’t be long to wait.

See you at the Festival.

Paul Callaghan
Festival Director.
