Yeh, I know, I'm a bit late on this news, but I have been following all the commotion surrounding the recently announced PlayStation 3 console price cut, and boy, it's a bit of a mess, isn't it. I won't go into the details on which Sony head figure said what, and things are still sort of up in the air on whether the 60 gig HD version of the console will be phased out in which territories, but it looks like if you're after that particular model in Australia, don't expect to get it at a "price-cut" by the definition that I'm sure most people are accustomed to...
From ScreenPlay...
Like Europe, a new PS3 bundle will instead be introduced for $999 which includes two games, an extra controller (for a total of two) and the 60GB version of the console.
So, to summarize. Sony terminology:
Price cut = extra bundled stuff totalling the previous cost
World-wide release = Japan and America only
Typical Sony. However, for that money its likely you'll get a console that actually works.
Apparently the PS3 is outselling 360 and Wii in Australia, so why bother cutting the price!
Because its a lie ;) The Wii has been outselling the PS3 for every week - bar the 2-3 weeks directly following the PS3 launch. Sony spun some numbers into an article that shows the PS3 in favorable light.
Expect to see a PS3 in 2 years still cost $1000AU - and come with 10 games ;)
What's the bet two of those games will be Motorstorm and Resistance.
Ah, I see I was spun ;)

That sounds like typical Nintendo fanboy rubbish Shams... you sure you are not the one who got spun there?
What Shams said sounds about right to me, I find it hard to believe the PS3 would outsell the 360 or the Wii. Especially in the case of the Wii as hardware sales are Nintendo's bread and butter. That as well as the reputation of Sony's Marketing/PR spinning relentless bullshit to help salvage their ailing products. I know all these console companies do anything they can to push their product, but some of the strategies I've seen Sony use over the past year are truly insulting to the intelligence of their target audience.
Anyone got links to some reliable sales figures?
