Big Ant Studios Game hits US Top Ten

It's good to finally write something about Big Ant Studios, a Melbourne game developer who previously ran under the name "Bullant Studios". It looks like Big Ant Studios is carrying the mantle once held by Rat Bag Games for Sprint Car games with "Sprint Cars: Road to Knoxville". American gamers seem to love the budget PS2 game title, so much so that it has hit the US Top Ten Console sales charts between July 30 to August 5...

    It speaks volumes.

"AU proud to be in the US top ten of the BARGAIN BIN games section"

    No worries mate!

So what is wrong with producing budget game titles, exactly? Not every game developer here has the 100+ teams and the financial resources to spend 4 to 5 years on a triple A title, you know . Only a small handful do at the moment, while the rest of the industry work on smaller scaled games, whether it'd be for mobiles, handhelds, pre-gen consoles, or hey, budget titles. Why do you wanna belittle their efforts? o_O

I total agree with Souri - also look at those teams with 100 + I know one that had its signature game come out at a budget price on release and that was it's sequel.

    Well done Big Ant

While the game may be a budget title, it is not in the "BARGAIN BIN games section" - it is in the outright top 10 of all console sales.

The other titles in the top ten are New Super Mario Bros. and Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day for the Nintendo DS, NCAA Football 07 (Xbox 360), Tekken: Dark Resurrection, and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter.

Any game from Aus in the Top Ten should be celebrated!

    Well done Big Ant!!

I would like to add that following the #7 of last week, we are #8 this week on the All Consoles Chart. On the PS2 only chart were #2 last week and #2 this week, which is a testament to the team here and the great job they have done with this title - it is one they should be very proud of.

    Cheers,

    Ross.
    CEO, Big Ant Studios.

Id just like to point out this is a top ten of the "Best Buy" charts. Not NPD or ESA or anything like that (ie monitored retail stats). This is quite a bit different to the monthly top ten posted on Gamasutra for example. While I think its great, again, Id like to note just a little bit of a reality check here. People read 'top ten' and they think in terms of the whole retail world of gaming.. thats not the case. A list of the top ten games on a retailers list like Best Buy however, is a good thing, and may they continue their success, but lets not try and make it out to be something it isnt.

Yeah, congrats. I can't tell from the screenshots how different it was from Saturday Night Speedway or even World of Outlaws 2002 but its definitely a niche that Ratbag should never have dropped out of.

Infact from looking at the screenshots, it looks exactly like Saturday Night Speedway. They haven't even changed the mud splatter texture.

Great game following in the line of the Ratbag games titles just one note the game would be much better if you could add your own picture and car skins like in DTR,DTR2,Leadfoot and DTR sprints. having bought all and enjoy them and done lan events and a online league with dtr & dtr2 . Guys how about making a great game even better with a patch to allow addon painted car skins and drivers pictures and names.
