Gamasutra has an interview with Holly Owen, the Creative Director behind the "Coolest Girl In School" mobile game that was nominated at the Game Developers Association of Australia (GDAA) awards late last year. Holly describes the collaboration between her, Adelaide's Kukan Studios, as well as others to build this self described 'GTA for girls' game.
Holly also responds to some of the criticisms the game has received, from overseas as well as locally from places such as the Australian Family Association, describing some of the key issues they miss...
(Holly) It's important to point out that Coolest Girl in School is not violent. There may be one teeny-tiny bitch fight squeezed in somewhere for accuracy, but essentially morally outraged media illiterate parents are wanting to burn us at the stake because teenage girls scare the hell out of their parents because they can get pregnant and teenage boys can't.
There are some great insights into the making of "Coolest Girl In School", and it's interesting to see how the team approached a game that's primarily for teenage girls. Head on over to Gamasutra for the full interview.
