Fury free to play forever

Company

Tony Hilliam, talking to Kotaku, has announced a new business model for Fury, allowing players to play without a monthly subscription fee. This comes with the release of the Age of the Chosen update.

Players who are playing for free will be playing in Chosen mode, and will accumulate gold and essence at a reduced rate and also won't be able to trade items with other players. Players can pay to upgrade to Hero mode which can increase the gold and essence gather rate. They can also buy gold directly from Auran.

FURY was built around giving players options that suit their play style and their wallet, With the AotC update, we are introducing a new player category called “Chosen”. As one of the Chosen, players can access all game types, equip all weapons and unlock all 400 abilities – and they can play as much as they like absolutely free. This is a fantastic opportunity for players to jump into battle with their mates and discover the frenetic pace of the fastest RPG combat ever. Chosen will earn less gold and essence, and will not be able to trade with other players.

Chosen players can purchase game gold from the FURY store or upgrade to “Hero” status to earn more Essence and Gold. Retail stores sell the “Hero” status pack, along with a free month of “Immortal” status, so this is $30 value for the new price of $19.99 (in US stores). As a Hero or Immortal players can unlock abilities faster and purchase better gear, but the matchmaker then ensures they are playing against other players of similar skill and rank.

What a joke this title has become. What an embarrassment.

To think, this game was so hyped up to being something it clearly was not. I wonder, how much damage this title has done to the local industry's reputation locally, and, abroad... ?

I wonder what effect this will have on the tax (film) rebate that the locals want so bad, after Auran's flop was such a big turd.

Especially as it didn't even use the technology that they had spent at least a few million on developing, from, government sources -- then there is "private" funding that was also flushed down the toilet.

This site has so much mud-flinging going on, but really, there is clearly a problem in the local development community when something like this can happen, especially when those that voiced their concern, were derided for their opinions.

Time to pull some heads out of arses I think ;).

It has no effect whatsoever. Happens every day. Most games do not succeed.

This is entertainment. It's fickle. You should see the movie industry. You can have the best actors, the best director, the best scriptwriters, the best editors, the best music score and still create a flop. You can also have the worst performances, a terrible script, poor equipment and create a hit. There's a lot of luck involved in creating hit content. In movies we say we know nothing, because nobody can predict what will succeed and what will flop. It is what it is. Fashions change, political environments change, so much is ouside of our control.

When it goes well however, every man and his dog takes responsibility for it.
