Epic Buys And Ceases Development of The Reality Engine

According to Blues News, Epic Games has bought out the Reality Engine by Artificial Studios and ceased any more development or support for it...

"Epic Games, one of the world's leading developers of cutting-edge computer and video games and the pioneer of the award-winning Unreal Engine, today announced that it has completed the purchase of the Reality Engine from Artificial Studios and hired its founder, and lead engine programmer, Tim Johnson. Tim will join the Unreal Engine 3 development team effective immediately and be part of Epic's presence at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, California next week."

Part of the press release reveals that Epic will provide current license holders of the Reality Engine a discount on the Unreal Engine 3 license.

What this means for Melbourne developers, U-235 Studios, is uncertain. U-235 studios are in the midst of developing their very promising Reality Engine based first person shooter, Retribution. Artificial Studios have been using the locally developed title to showcase the capabilites of the Reality Engine.
