AIE And CIT combine force to offer Programming Degree

AIE and CIT are pleased to announce the Bachelor of Games and Virtual Worlds (Programming) being offered in partnership.

The BGames&VW(Prog) is a 3 year degree focused on producing graduates for the simulation, virtual worlds and games industries. Students will get to experience AIE’s studio environment and work in teams with other programmers and artists, a unique feature of the degree. IT students enrolling at the AIE Canberra campus now have the option of enrolling in the Academy’s two year Advanced Diploma of Professional Game Development or the Degree in partnership with CIT.

"This is a really exciting development, not just for AIE, but for games and simulation education in Australia" said AIE Canberra Head of School Lea Bartlett.

"The career destinations for our graduates are growing each year and this degree will open up even more pathways to work in simulation and virtual worlds".

The degree program is designed to provide professional game programmers with the skills and knowledge of a computer science degree contextualised by gaming applications plus core skills in programming and design. Previous AIE Advanced Diploma graduates and those currently in the industry are able to have their experience recognised should they wish to articulate into the degree.

Local industry veteran Tony Oakden had this to say about the degree, "I was very excited to hear that a computer games degree was being run by the AIE. The AIE is one of the premier training facilities for students who want to learn the skills required to get into the games industry and I believe that a degree course will be a great addition to their extensive range of courses."
