Chinese game developers look to AIE to raise training standards

Submitted by mattw

The growing demand in China for skilled game developers has resulted in an exclusive opportunity for Ian Gibson, CEO of Australia?s Academy of Interactive Entertainment (AIE), to address a select group of Chinese delegates at the world?s largest games event, Chinajoy.

Now in its fifth year, Chinajoy attracts many of the world?s leading game developers and technology manufacturers including Ubisoft, EA Games, Squareenix, Sony Computer Entertainment together with over 170,000 Chinese gamers, game developers, investors, government officials and media representatives.

Mr Gibson?s invitation to speak at last month?s Chinajoy event in Shanghai follows a visit by Chinese government officials to AIE?s Canberra campus earlier this year. The visiting officials were particularly interested in AIE?s high employment rates and close relationship with Australian industry. There was also a great deal of interest in AIE?s education model and the Australian vocational system in general.

?It was a great honour to have AIE recognised as the model of excellence in this area? said Mr Gibson ?and particularly important to make strong connections with major players in this huge market?.

Mr Gibson?s keynote address at Chinajoy focused on the challenge of raising standards in games education and its importance in developing growth. The address followed an invitation to tour major Chinese games companies in June. ?Part of this process was to see how adaptable our new games courses are to Chinese online game development and our curricula met with overwhelming approval there? said Mr Gibson.

?There was great interest the development of our latest course, the Advanced Diploma of Professional Game Development? says Mr Gibson. ?There was also strong interest in how AIE develops and maintains our close links with games companies and continues to provide the best employment outcomes of any similar training organisation in Australia?.

Since 1996, AIE has enabled graduates with the skills necessary for careers in the world?s fastest growing digital media industries. AIE graduates can now be found working in games, film and 3D production studios throughout the world. AIE?s Canberra and Melbourne campuses offer a wide range of courses from full time Advanced Diploma studies to part time and online Certificate II and Certificate III courses.
