The folks over at PALGN caught up with Krome Studios for an interview, to have a talk about the imminent release of The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning and the state of the game development industry in Australia. When asked on Krome’s expectations for some of the smaller developers to deal with the large expenses in developing for next gen, the spokesperson had this to say:
Although development for next gen is rather expensive, I don’t believe that current smaller developers will close. They may, however move into other markets. There is currently lots of opportunity for this in Australia. For example, they could move onto making games for PSP, mobile phone, etc.
Krome also believes that Australia is releasing some quality titles, and goes on to name specific developers that they feel are making a mark on the industry with great games.
There are a lot of quality titles being released, especially through Pandemic and Auran, though there are lots of other companies that are releasing some great games.
