Leading Australian game developer Tantalus Interactive today announced its new lineup of handheld products at the annual Australian Game Developer's Conference (AGDC).
SpongeBob SquarePants: The Yellow Avenger has now shipped worldwide on Nintendo's DS platform. This title is the first from Tantalus on the DS, and the company is happy to announce that SpongeBob will also be released on Sony's PlayStation Portable in the first quarter of 2006.
The New Year will also see the release of another highly anticipated Tantalus title for PSP. Throughout 2005, Tantalus has been working with THQ and Rainbow Studios on a title built around the highly successful MX off-road franchise. MX vs ATV Unleashed: On the Edge promises to be one of the deepest and most technically impressive racing titles yet to grace the PSP.
Tantalus is also pleased to announce that it is nearing completion on Payload, an original firstparty title for Nokia?s N-Gage platform. This game will also ship in the first quarter of 2006, and will offer gamers an array of unique experiences including online play through N-Gage Arena.
Tantalus CEO Tom Crago said the company had transitioned well to new-generation handheld development. "It's a thrill to be working on such high profile titles first up. SpongeBob is probably the biggest kids property in the world right now and to be able to bring it to DS and PSP is a big deal for us. We've also always loved Rainbow?s Motocross titles, and we think our PSP version stacks up incredibly well alongside these great games. We built quite a name for ourselves on GBA, and we hope to see that reputation grow on DS, PSP and N-Gage."
As well as continuing to support the DS, PSP and PlayStation2, Tantalus plans to commence its transition onto next-generation consoles in 2006.
