Victorian animated short film wins Academy Award?

Congratulations Harvie Krumpet ! Film Victoria is pleased to congratulate celebrated Victorian filmmaker Adam Elliot, and producer Melanie Coombes on their stunning win today of the Academy Award for Best Short Film (Animated) for their 22-minute clay-animation film HARVIE KRUMPET.

Produced in Melbourne by Melodrama Pictures, with assistance from Film Victoria, the Australian Film Commission and SBS Independent, HARVIE KRUMPET is a poignant tale about an ordinary man seemingly cursed with perpetual bad luck.

One of five nominees for Best Animated Short Film, HARVIE KRUMPET won the award over films from the renowned US animation studios of Pixar, Disney and Blue Sky.

Already the winner of an unprecedented three awards at the 2003 Annecy International Animation Festival, HARVIE KRUMPET has also won the prestigious Leeds short film animation competition Louis Le Prince 2003, the Valladolid International Film Festival Spain?s Special Jury Prize 2003, three prestigious awards at Cinamina 03, Portugal?s International Animation Festival and the Film Victoria Erwin Rado Award for Best Australian Short at the 2003 Melbourne International Film Festival.

HARVIE KRUMPET can be seen on SBS on Monday 8 March at 9.00pm. It is also currently screening in a double bill with Victorian filmmaker Matthew Saville?s short feature ROY H?LSDOTTER LIVE at Cinema Nova in Melbourne and Dendy Newtown in Sydney.
