The Interactive Entertainment Association of Australia (IEAA) has released the results of a survey they conducted late last year with 1,606 Australian households and households and 3,386 individuals participating. The survey explored the gaming habits of families and game players.
The key findings include:
- 79% of Australian households have a device for playing computer and video games.
- The average age of Australian gamers is 28 years.
- Interactive games are attracting new players. 41% of gamers are female. 8% are seniors.
- Parents and children are increasingly playing together. 35% of gamers are parents.
- 62% of Australians in game households say the classification of a game has no influence on their buying decision
The report found that women and older Australians are the fastest growing audiences for games and suggests that by the year 2014, the average age of gamers will be 42 years old.
