GDAA Drops E3 for GDC

Game Developers' Association of Australia's chief executive, Evelyn Richardson, has told Australian IT that the annual delegation of local developers to E3 has come to an end. The GDAA has chosen the Game Developers' Conference in San Francisco as the destination next year to showcase the work of local game developers. The downscaling and uncertainty of the next E3 conference has been a big part of the decision...

Ms Richardson said she expected at least 30 local studios would make the trek to GDC in San Francisco next March as domestic operations sought to raise their profile.

AustralianIT has also posted some interesting statistics on the local game industry, with a large increase in exports and employee numbers over the last few years...

Research commissioned by the association and completed last month showed that Australian video games exports had risen at least 10 per cent to $110 million in the past three years.

The number of people employed by the industry had surged 60 per cent since 2003 thanks largely to the popularity of Australian studios with multinational publishers seeking fee-for-service talent.
