IGN AU previews Hellboy: The Science of Evil

Company

IGN AU has had a tour of Krome Studios in Brisbane, and in the process scored themselves with a hands-on preview of Xbox 360 version of Hellboy: The Science of Evil. The previewer goes through some of Hellboy's moves, combo's, and weaponising capabilities, and also describes some of the variety of levels he was able to romp around in. It looks like IGN AU had a good go of Krome's heavily action oriented comic licensed game, but they left with the feeling that this isn't the ultimate Hellboy game that fans are waiting for. From IGN AU...

We came away from Hellboy with slightly mixed feelings. On one hand Krome has done a brilliant job of diving deep into the mythology of the Hellboy universe and has created an experience that feels highly authentic, but on the other hand it doesn't really do anything radically exciting in gaming terms. The visuals are serviceable but far from jaw-dropping and the combat is solid without being spectacular.

Hellboy: The Science of Evil comes out in North America today, and heads our way on the 22nd of August. For the full preview, head on over to IGN AU!

Hey, I didn't know Big Ant were doing the PSP version? Other than that, the video seems to be company logos and no footage O_o

I believe bigant were working on the PSP title until Krome Adelaide took over the PSP development.

Then bigant went on to work on Spyro: The Eternal Night with Krome, which was eventually taken over by Krome Melbourne when it got bought out.

Nope.

Big Ant did both Spyro:Eternal PS2 and Hellboy PSP.

Krome Adelaide didn't work on Hellboy PSP at all. Krome Melbourne did a little work on Hellboy (Network play), they did no work on Spyro.

Some shit hit the fan somewhere along the line between the companies and the matter is before the courts from what I hear. I also have heard that Krome were trying to keep it under wraps that Big Ant did the work and that people at Krome were not too happy when outsiders found out that Big Ant were working on these titles.

I think all of the krome Melbourne and Brisbane guys who were drafted in to clean up BugAnt's mess on both might disagree. At the end of those projects there were almost no BugAnt guys left on the project. Or so I hear. If everyone else wants to spread rumors, why not me?

Love the new site. Just like old times.

If it's before the court then we'll find out the truth I guess... certainly can't beleive much written on here!! I don't think either Krome or BigAnt employees can be tarred with the one brush... I know good people at both studios....

Anyway, it could be worse, at least these games weren't made at RedTribe... from what I can see both of these games are actually quite good :)

Krome weren't trying to hide that BigAnt worked on the project. AKA they are in the intro movies etc.

I do believe you are correct to a extent about Krome and BigAnt having falling outs about Spyro, but I don't believe its before the courts.

From what I can gather, it looks like they hand crafted some of the textures to give a drawn style look. There's a whole hit and miss affair when you go that route which some people either appreciate or hate. It was the same deal with the art in World of Warcraft. Anyway, from what I can see, this looks alright to me.

I mean, this looks pretty good.

I guess it's hard to impress anyone these days if it doesn't look something like God of War: Chains of Olympus on the PSP.

What happened with the court case? who won?

The Supreme Court site has no result, "directions" means that it is about half way through, basically Big Ant would be outlining why they are suing Krome and Krome would be outlining a defence.
