Irrational Games brand making a welcomed return

Company

Joystik.com have been doing some sleuthing and have caught on to 2K Boston's plan to revert back to their original developer title, Irrational Boston. Irrational Games, which had studios in both Boston and Canberra, was bought in early 2006 by publisher Take Two and subsequently rebranded as 2K Boston and 2K Australia a few months later.

The first clue came via GDC 09 when 2K Boston employees were seen with both 2K Boston and 2K Irrational Games email address on their shirts, and the next hint came when Take Two recently filed a registration trademark for Irrational Boston. The final hint, which all but confirms the plan, comes from next month's Game Informer magazine who have revealed via a blog post that 2K Boston will be returning to their roots as an Irrational Games studio.

It's still uncertain if the Australian studio will follow suit with a name change. The Irrational Games website, www.irrationalgames.com, has a count down ticker with the title "Something is coming..."

It looks like 2K Boston has indeed reverted back to the Irrational Games title, however, 2K Australia will be keeping theirs. From Shacknews...

2K Australia--formerly Irrational Games' Australian studio and currently assisting 2K Marin with BioShock 2--is to retain its current name.
