Jason Hill has compiled his top ten Australian developed games of all time on Screenplay. Sumea had a top seven in Sumea votes which visitors could vote and comment on here, and AustralianGamer made a top ten list as well a while ago, so it's interesting to see how certain games made it on these various charts.
I'll only quote the last four on the list, so you'll have to jump on over to Screenplay to see the rest. Oh, and I'm hugely glad that title #2 made it in the charts, and in such a high position. :)
7. Destroy All Humans (Pandemic) - Delightful and amusing alien escapade with a sharp script and comedic weapons.8. Top Gear Rally (Tantalus) - Pushed the humble Game Boy Advance to its limits as players enjoyed the giddy fun of powersliding around corners.
9. Grand Prix Challenge (Melbourne House) - A cleverly designed, world-beating Formula One simulation with great customisation options to accommodate both Sunday drivers and F1 enthusiasts.
10. Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 3 (Krome) - Bonza fun for billy lids, highly accessible with plenty of variety.
How the heck did Transformers rate 1st? Geez thats very sad. Id put Taz far infront of that bigtime. And The Hobbit really was an industry first in Aus, and ranks as the highest achievement when games werent even really global? How can a half baked modern average FPS out rank this I dont know.
Transformers from a graphical point of view probably was quite up there on the Ps2 side, probably pushed the boundaries of the hardware. From a gameplay point of view it was a bit bland.
Obviously this is wrong. Destroy All Humans should be first :P
If there's anything that could be gleemed from the three Top Aussie Games lists on Sumea, AustralianGamer, and Screenplay, it's that people have wide and varying opinions on what should be in the list and how it should be sorted. ;) I can't give enough praise for The Way of the Exploding Fist though. I just read an article in a Retrogamer magazine with the programmer and creator of International Karate and how much he praised Greg Barnett and Exploding Fist for inspiring International Karate.
Just great to see so many great aussie games though i bet on the list hey ;)
