Autodesk at SIGGRAPH 2006: Make the Story Come Alive

64-Bit Releases of Autodesk 3ds Max 9 and Autodesk Maya 8 Animation Software and Launch of New Community Portal Underscore Company?s Commitment to Next-Generation 3D

SYDNEY, August 3, 2006 - (AUTODESK SIGGRAPH BOOTH #1706) - Autodesk, Inc. has unveiled new versions of its Autodesk 3ds Max 9 and Autodesk Maya 8 animation, modelling and rendering software at the SIGGRAPH 2006 convention currently being held in Boston, Mass. These products are designed to help digital content creators in the games, film and television, and design visualisation industries realise their creative ideas. The new releases contain significant improvements in core performance, productivity and pipeline efficiency to help artists deal with the challenges of next-generation 3D production.

3ds Max 9 and Maya 8 (announced yesterday) mark the first major releases of the products since Autodesk?s January 2006 acquisition of Alias, a developer of 3D graphics technology and the Maya software. Petit said, ?Autodesk remains focused on developing both 3ds Max and Maya. We?ve strengthened each of the products and improved interoperability, in order to provide artists with choice and flexibility in their 3D toolset. We?re excited to participate in SIGGRAPH 2006, demonstrating our commitment to the bright future of these products.?

Autodesk has also announced a new community portal called Area (www.the-area.com). Area will go live on August 22, enabling artists to network with peers and enjoy a repository of 3D content. Content will be posted by community members and Autodesk. Area will contain tips and tutorials, forums, downloads, a showcase area, member portfolios and blogs from Autodesk?s product management team.
