In a first for network television Channel 10 mixes geeks, games, gadgets and gorgeous girls in a new must see Australian produced show for gamers and technology nerds.
Cybershack TV showcases the very latest from the world of games, a growing industry worth over 7 billion per annum. In fact, 76% of all households have a computer, console or handheld device for playing games.
Each week model, presenter and gaming enthusiast 'Fuzzy' will road test the latest games from Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo and compare the gaming experience to real life!
Fuzzy takes on the Sydney Kings at b-ball, the best young female snow boarder Tora Bright on the slopes at Thredbo and Team Extreme on a military obstacle course.
Sporting heroes and stars are also thrown in the mix with episode one seeing Anthony "The Man" Mundine taking on a string of challenges - fortunately for all that contended Mundine's lightening jabs were constrained to the table tennis court.
Cybershack TV, a joint venture between Chic Media and CBN Media, is already Australia's number one independent and dedicated gaming & gadget website (www.cybershack.com) and is a successful radio show with over 200,000 weekly listeners nationally.
CYBERSHACK TV, Tuesdays at 11pm, starting August 1.
Oh god Souri, don't tell me you read mygen.
This info was posted several weeks ago by several other sources that don't just copy and paste their entire updates straight from press releases.
I know most sites pick and choose paragraphs, and give their editorial spin and what not, but I don't think most people here would be too concerned that I just place the entire press release instead. I usually do put the lot up when I receive press releases.
Sure, the press release above is roughly under 2 weeks old, but I hardly think it's such a problem seeing as the show doesn't actually start until next week.
What's wrong with mygen? (I don't really visit it often)
Sumea is a "launchpad". I've got no problems with what you post :) You source all your content.
Mygen is (attempting to be) an Australian gaming media outlet. However, they copy and paste just about all their content directly from other sites or press releases. For example their "preview" for the Xmen 3 game is copied directly from the fact sheet given out at the demo sessions. I kid you not.
On top of this you'll notice they don't source where they copy their content from. Reading their site you'd have no idea (other that the wording) that the article you linked to comes straight from a press release. Sentence copied from press releases need to be set in quotes and clearly sourced, otherwise it's plagiarism.
When some people trying to fight a losing battle to make the public believe that Australian video game journalism doesn't suck, mygen stands for all that is wrong with the industry. Linking to them gives both traffic and advertising dollars they don't deserve.
It's interesting that you mention the problem with Australian video game journalism, it's an issue that was recently brought up at Jason Hill's Screenplay. Jason also happens to mention of a very similar plagiarism problem that happened at another local website (with a very public spat between the owner and editors), and the site has since closed down because of it.
I usually do mention or at least link to the original source for all the news items on here, but I'd like it to be known that I don't classify myself as a video game journalist, and anything that looks like plagiarism on here is probably due to my severe thoughtfulness or laziness and by no means an attempt to pass others work as my own ;)
I wonder if that Fuzzy is the same guy from Dystopia (Project lead), if so, well done to him!
Its also on at a good time, in regards to my Night TAFE Classes
Nah, the presenter is female. You can see her picture from the link in the news item.
Sounds good - I just visited that MyGEN site as well and I think it's good. I think it's a community style site rather then trying to act like they are game journalists.
I think thats the problem with a lot of sites out there, they get caught up with the politics of it all but each site has its own purpose.
I'm glad there's one more site out there giving me a place to read the news thats related to Aussies. Giving them slack for plagarism is just a cheap shot, I congratulate them.
I also love sumea too and get my news from here as well:0) They do the right thing and spread the word about local things and thats what we should be doing.
Looking forward to this TV show thats for sure.
It's on tonight, folks!
Anyone happen to catch it last night, and have a review? Is it good or do we have to look forward to ABC2's "Good Game" show in 3 weeks?
chances are if chic have anything to do with it...its gunna suck balls!!
It was pretty bad. I happened to flick over to it. Watching people play table tennis on X360.. didnt do alot for me. And the reviews for the Tomb Raider game was shorter than the adds :) It really was just a big long advertisement for phones, X360, and other stuff. Not overly interesting - nothing you dont see in an advert.. pity. Would be great to have something like Towards 2000 again, with a game industry twist. Mah.. oh well, least was better than watching Hotdogs and his new side kick (my god shes a horror...).
the Cybershack website does not work!
I watched most of the first show and don't really feel the need to follow up on any more. I think most of what I felt was wrong with it can be summed up from the Screenplay blog.
Control Freaks did a much better job at covering games, and I think the producers of Cybershack should really look into online shows like the 1up show or even Gamespot Live to draw some ideas on how to cover games in an entertaining way.
